Any good boomboxes? Why not build one?

    That Denon/Yamaha combo used to get good reviews; is it still made? Is it any good? Is there anything better out there?
    What components would you recommend for building your own? Some combination of portable cd, small amp (McCormack?) & small speakers (paradigm? Maybe with sub?). I realize that it wouldn't be truly portable, unless there's an amp that runs on batteries. That's ok, I hate blowing money on batteries anyway. Thanks.
