I'm not talking about Stevie Nicks. It's Styx. Or Stynx. Stinks. I'm sure Ms Nicks smells lovely. Her music, on the other hand....

  6. I agree (although my brothers and on the radio they said Daveez) but it does make me laugh that Dave and Ray can't even agree on that!

I've heard Arista Records pronounced two ways:

    "AIR-ista", and "uh-RISS-ta".

    Which is correct?

Eagles. But the band themselves don't even stay consistent.

I think I pronounce it right but for some reason, ever since I was a kid, I'm fearful of tripping on a syllable and messing up when I utter "Lynyrd Skynyrd".

    Same with Dmitri Shostakovich.

In US English, it's just two syllables, emphasis on the second: Ruh-MOANS

I think people still speak in hushed tones about the Australian female presenter of a TV variety show who dropped a clanger by pronouncing the name of the band Duran Duran as "durren durren", with the short "u" sound as in "current".

I have also heard people who don't know better pronounce Bob Dylan's last name as "dye-lan", rhyming with "nylon".

I figured that, when I saw that you were posting from Spain. In English, an E following a consonant at the end of a word usually is silent, and makes the previous vowel long, as in the case with the name Ramone (pronounced Ruh-Moan). The S at the end just makes it plural (and is pronounced more like a Z than a hard S).
