Nirvana. I was 25 when they hit it big and so maybe just a tad old for their target audience, but I have never understood the love for them.

I would never listen to music because some loser hipster says it's cool. Life is too short. It's an age thing maybe.

Thankfully I'm at an age where I don't give a toss if I'm "supposed" to or not.......

Of course my boss doesn't always agree....but he's coming round to my way of thinking.

Speaking as an old progger who also loves '70s pop, classic rock, and classical music...I just cannot get into Patti Smith, Hüsker Du, Beck, Replacements, Television, Sonic Youth, Elvis Costello, Radiohead, or Talking Heads. These acts are all very respected, which is why I feel like I am "supposed" to appreciate them. Hey, I want to like everything! But we all have our individual tastes, for which we owe no excuses or apologies. Deciding to suddenly like Beck is like deciding to believe in God (I don't, and I can't help it).

Personally I appreciate the premise. Everyone has things they do or don't like, but there are certain artists that -- at least in some circles -- it's almost mandatory to like/love. Meanwhile my friends are shocked to discover that I'm indifferent (or worse) to their music.

A few big ones that apply to me and haven't been named yet: ABBA, The Band, Prince, Rush, and They Might Be Giants. All of these have at least one song I like, but in general their music has no resonance for me.

What else...I'm not a fan of Sandy Denny's voice, which makes most Fairport Convention tracks a tough sell for me. And I don't enjoy Stanley Clarke's playing or overall concept at all, with the exception of "Vulcan Worlds".

On the classical music tip, I generally can't stand Vladimir Ashkenazy's playing, and most (but not all) Brahms leaves me indifferent.

The only example I can think of for this thread is this:

I like Ozzy's solo albums, but I don't like the songs "I Don't Know", "Crazy Train", "Over The Mountain" and "Flying High Again" -- even though I'm probably supposed to.

I also don't think Randy Rhoads was a standout guitarist even though I'm probably supposed to.

Actually, I can tell you that! But you can lead a horse to water, but you can’t make him think, so it’s your loss.

There are artists that I think that I should like because I like similar bands, not really because of peer pressure.

Example- I like The Replacements, but can't get into Husker Du.

    Other bands include

    The Smiths
    Oasis
    Radiohead
