Mako Sica - Garland of Heads feat. 2021, Astral Spirits Every second of this record is captivating. There is an otherworldly, haunting vibe that just draws me in. The musicians are obviously insanely talented, but nobody is doing too much or showing off. Everything is unhurried and serves a purpose. This was just my first listen but I'm blown away.
Interesting. I listened to some of their music and thought, "Yeah, let me buy some of that," only to find they're not fond of CD. I mean, they sell a cassette of this album, but no CD. It's their music to do what they want with, of course. However, they'll be getting none of mine. Oh well.
Free form songwriting. Says so right here on the sleeve! been on an Annette Peacock kick lately and saw that this and it's follow up album The Perfect Release had recently been reissued on CD. So I thought why not? Both are shipped in proper Mini LP sleeves, with a gatefold. The performers on this one is amazing. Among the large crew are: Mick Ronson, Chris Spedding, Stu Woods, Bill Bruford, and Mick Morotta! Just not too left field (but definitely not mainstream) music to a form of, well, rapping I guess. Ms. Peacock isn't much of a singer, after all. If you like I'm the One, then you'll like this. Instead of a early synth you have a full band, other than that it's of a sort. Great stuff.
It's much easier these days to do only cd, and even cassette, then it is vinyl, even though there is a lot of demand for vinyl. I just happen to prefer that medium, as I'm 64 and frankly didn't like cd's when they first arrived. Of course I have thousands of them because in the end it's about the music, but I almost always opt for vinyl and even cassette(mostly cause it's cheaper) then cd.
Oh, I'm just happy for people to get what they want, in the format they want. I'm a similar age to yourself, but Vinyl isn't for me any longer. Choice, that's the key.
The great aspect of CD is that you may easily burn one yourself. It's not the same as the proper package (aesthetically), but you cannot really press a vinyl on your own and it's much more difficult to record a blank cassette from audio files. This gives CD a substantial advantage when it comes to filling up the shelves.
Luckily Mako Sica's companion release Ourania (a sort of the project's next chapter, with Hamid Drake subbing for Jacob Fawcett) will be soon available on CD: OURANIA, by Mako Sica / Hamid Drake featuring Tatsu Aoki & Thymme Jones Mako Sica & Hamid Drake – Ourania CD (digibook) – Instant Classic
Decoy with Joe McPhee AC/DC Holy cow this is as good as the other one.....one of the greatest things I've ever heard! I have the riff from the second track stuck in my head now, McPhee must play it 6 zillion times...
That's how I feel almost every time I listen to any Joe McPhee LP Spontaneous Combustion gets a lot of play in my house, but I haven't picked up the other 2 Decoy albums because they're (wait for it) only on CD!! But I'll probably have to break down and get them both. McPhee et al are worth the sacrifice.
Joe McPhee Po Music Oleo fantastic, although the guitar playing on the title track takes some getting used to....
Luke Stewart - Works For Electric Bass Guitar 2021, Tripticks Tapes Short, captivating release from one of my favorite musicians at the moment. Pretty incredible, the sounds he can pull from a bass guitar.
