Paragraphs And Principles, by OFFICER! (avant-garde / funny music, full-length, physical CD available, released December 2, 2021, UK) Favourite track: Make The Past Serve The Present
I've been playing some soundtracks lately, and I'd forgotten just how great the released soundtrack for The Exorcist is. Pendereki, Crumb, Webern, it's a fantastic sampler of music operating on the farthest edges. Setting aside the movie itself, the album really is a great way to acquaint yourself with some exciting composers, or to reintroduce them into your play lists.

Guys, it has arrived! I finally received my copy of this monumental box set: Of course, I'm annoyed that there are 6 performances on Vinyl, and only 4 on the CD's. How much more would it have cost to burn those other two performances to CD? Especially when you consider this is a $150 purchase. But since we lost Lucier recently, this is a great way to celebrate the great man.
Limited to 500 Copies, and numbered. Mine is number 114. Ships in a standard 12" lift off top, box. This is not only my favorite Lucier piece, it's also one of the most powerful concepts I've ever heard. My favorite piece of music is Music for 18 Musicians, but while this is exactly "music", it's right up there in terms of impact, imo. Sadly, I don't do Vinyl, so the two earliest performances aren't accessible to me. I held off buying it because of this, but in the end caved when I realized that there would come a time when I regretted letting it get away. YMMV.
There's an article up about 90s avant-garde jazz with some recommendations - Parker, Ware, Gayle, Morris etc. The author also wrote a book I have called New York Is Now! on the same subject. 1990s Free Jazz
Great recommendations in there, I've only heard the Charles Gayle, which is totally killer. Lots of stuff to add to my listening list, thanks for posting.
The vinyl pressings sound amazing in this set (noting for @SeeDubs as you said you don't so vinyl). Love mine.
Ah, I remember those America reissues coming out. I was working in Lisbon and the big record/book store had a display with them all. Free America I bought the Braxton Series F, Shepp's Black Gypsy, and Bley's Improvisie - wish I'd bought the lot!
I've managed to find all of the Free America reissues used at reasonable prices over the past 5 years, except the Art Ensemble's Phase One.

AMM Keith Rowe John Tilbury Eddie Prevost 12/5/2015 65:24 great great performance - not sure any other group of 70 somethings could play music this focused. They are all at full power and extreme focus. from “An Unintended Legacy”
That was recorded at Cafe Oto and I was there... When I saw the announcement about it and saw Keith Rowe's name, I couldn't quite believe it as I'd given up hope of seeing them as a trio ever again.
My only chance was ~2000 when they toured the northeast US when Fine was released. Still a bit irritated I didn’t go see them at The Knitting Factory. Very grateful I’ve seen Rowe live a number of times over the years.

I had no idea this release existed! Feels like a follow-up to "Laminal"...will need to do a catch-up order with Matchless, looks like I've been out of the loop for a while!
