Shocking it was a single that went all the way to #07. It is even worse than I remember it.

Sorry, this is a classic. Great imaginative reworking of the song.

How about Joan Baez's terrible version of "The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down"? That really sucks the big one.

Those were the comments at the time. I checked Wikipedia and the Carpenters version of the song (their first charting single) was released about 4 years after The Beatles original, and there were positive comments about turning the song into a ballad, which was considered a bit radical at the time. While the song is not one of my favorites, I like the Carpenters original version of the song which is a bit rougher than the version that appears on their album Singles 1969-1973.

If by "imaginative" you mean drowsy, lifeless and weird, yes I suppose it is.

Procol Harum are one of the best bands to come from the UK. Everything they did was just beautiful and original so the hell were they thinking when covering The Beatles Eight Days A Week?

This is one of the greatest "bad" cover songs I know of. Tampa public access legend Sondra Prill with Janet Jackson's Nasty. There is a 30 second intro by the host and then it's nothing but non-stop dong flops. This is a must watch!

It's not great, but he didn't have time to finish it. It's a weird song to cover; a repetitive melody over a two-chord romp. Not much potential in it in the first place.

Kate Pierson just wrecked "Venus" by Shocking Blue. A shame, since it sounded like a good idea.

Funeral For A Friend released a few covers over their lifetime. Most of them are obscure. However, at a time they were really starved for b-sides, the label asked them to cover two famous songs so they went with Thin Lizzy's "The Boys Are Back In Town" and U2's "Sunday Bloody Sunday". Though they liked the songs, they were at odds with their sound and made the group sound like a garage band. After that point, their choices of covers reflected groups they felt deserved more exposure.

OMG, that reeks... I like PH, but Booker's stubborn insistence (highlighted here) on being the only voice of the band and not allowing harmony vocals, is what makes the band hard for me to enjoy except in small doses.
