"I'm Too Shy" is a great song. I first heard chunks of it in the background on their episode of VH1 Behind the Music, and I was happy to see it released in full later on on the demo compilation. I can think of maybe half a dozen tracks that it could have replaced on Maybe Tomorrow to greatly improve the album. I think the band wanted to do fairly hard-edged pop, of which "I'm Too Shy" is a great example, but they felt some degree of pressure to record an eclectic variety of material in order to showcase their range. By the early 1970s, they had a little more freedom to record the material they wanted, but then came the rise of the Sensitive Singer-Songwriters like James Taylor and Carole King, which (I believe) influenced Badfinger to record more ballads than they otherwise might have.

Nice! The same writer had one for a few Badfinger releases, one of which is a special November 1970 gig from a club in Birmingham, Michigan.
That's almost the same set of songs I mentioned earlier in the thread. The only difference is the inclusion of a demo version of "Knocking Down Our Home" instead of "Permissive Paradise" (which might have escaped the other compiler's attention because it was released under a pseudonym, "The Pleasure Garden"). That song originally appeared on a flexi-disc in a very obscure book, but needledrops have since appeared on a couple of compilation CDs.
