    I would say most cases.

It remains to be known what "original" (straight or remastered?) and "using" means.

Who did the mastering to Lp?

I'd guess the right thing is to use the remastered hi-rez digital files as the source, and remaster to Lp using the old console and an very knowledgeable mastering specialist.

That's the unofficial motto for any Beatles thread.

Just wait until the press release and more tech info is leaked out -- this is nothing in comparison which what's to come.

I'm almost certainly going to buy at least one LP on or shortly after release day -- I've been thinking this over since the pre-announcement came out. Question is "which one"? I might grab MMT as the packaging could replace my destroyed early 80's copy and then I can do a sonic assessment between that and my old vinyl and CD's.

The MMT reissue will also likely be full stereo, so just for that alone it's an improvement over my old Capitol version and will likely be a good LP to test the waters. If we don't know if it's 24/44 or not by then, a quick needle drop should put that question to bed for me.

"Past Masters" seems like the ideal choice to sample the sound...plus you're getting the unfitzed stereo mix of "Thank You Girl" on vinyl for the first time.

That was the other one I was considering. I would also guess that for anyone with a Blue Box, that one would be a good fit as it gives them most of the "missing" tracks from the Blue Box, sans MMT.

Yes. Why do you think they would go through all that trouble to ensure the catalog sounds consistent across all media types? So, no matter what you hear, USB, vinyl, or CD, you will get the same experience.

Now, when I say "streamlined", I don't mean the vinyl will have the same sonic limitations as redbook. I'm talking in terms of the mastering (EQ, ect...). Remember, 24/192 is better than redbook.

I know many vinyl fans were hoping for something special or unique, apart from the CDs many dislike, but, reading about how they are mastering the LPs, that doesn't seem to be the case.

Because they are as dedicated/OCD (anal?) as those who will be listening to them.

I just realized these Beatles lps will probably be mastered the same way that the McCartney lp reissues were. Same team, right? What were those sourced from? How did they sound?

I'm thinking they will put more attention to them. I just have the new reissue of McCartney, and I can tell you that it doesn't really shine... An old pressing (all analog?) is definitely much better.

I'll probably test the waters with the stereo Beatles For Sale, which is my favorite of the early stereo mixes.

And the worst thing is that they all cost a little fortune. Well, except Ram in Mono which sounds really good, forgot to mention this one. So would it be a hit or miss deal?

Don't the Red and Blue albums fill the same holes?

Which I recall is digital. I'm keeping an open mind. The early Stones box sounds great. Let's wait and see. For those who post how it's going to sound or how bad this is. One question: How do you know? 'Nuff said ........

They do fill some holes, but not as much as Past Masters. Past Masters contains all of the B-sides that were not on the official LPs.

I thought that if I have the U.K. Blue Box (including the British Rarities), plus a German or U.S. MMT and the Red and Blue albums, I have a complete stereo collection. That's what this Wikipedia article says anyway:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rarities_(1978_The_Beatles_album)

What would be on the vinyl Past Masters that I don't have, if I have all of the above?

That would cover it. Off hand, I think the only missing track would be the version of Love Me Do with Ringo on drums.

In that case I see no reason why someone with the UK Blue Box would want to complete their collection with the new digitally sourced Past Masters vinyl rather than the original Red and Blue albums. Unless the new digital stuff somehow sounds better.

You wouldn't have "Thank You Girl", "This Boy", "She's a Woman", "I'm Down", "Yes it Is", "Matchbox", "I Call Your Name", "Slow Down", "Long Tall Sally", "Rain" or "The Inner Light" in stereo...all of which are on "Past Masters"
