IMO, more future bands copied The Who's style more than the Stones, Beatles or Dylan.

That's absolutely true, but please note I was talking about how they influenced their contemporaries, not the future generations.

Paul McCartney said they were influenced by Dylan and The Who. The Beatles went from basic pop to more complex and themed music.

The Who is the obvious answer for the brit rock triumvirate, but I wouldn't be choosing those first two.

    But seriously:

Of the listed bands - The Rolling Stones, the elite of the British Invasion
Of UK rock bands - Queen
Of bands - The Beach Boys

Beatles, Rolling Stones & Craig McLachlan and Check 1-2.

  23. The Yardbirds (and not because of the big three).

By the way, for me it goes:

The Beatles (My favourite band, emeritus),
    The Yardbirds (My favourite band),
    The Rolling Stones.
