The letter from Capitol is a hoot! What idiot would possibly have returned it knowing the album's immediate collectability/value?

A recent episode of "Antiques Roadshow" had a woman bringing in her sealed copy that she bought at Sears the day it was released (how she kept from opening it I'll never know).

The appraiser said it was almost impossible to find an unopened copy and gave her a value of $12,000.

I saw that auction, her copy wasn't sealed, but it was still mint. She later sold it at auction I believe.

Perry pay's a lot more than that for first state!

I guess since it references promo copies then folks returned it fearing they might be taken off the promo list - lots of people aren't collectors. But clearly lots of people didn't return copies too.

That was a repeat or highlight show. The LP was opened and the record lightly played. Didn't mean anything at that point as it was a first state stereo, with seams intact. He told her to remove the record from the cover for future storage.:edthumbs:

  16. Her copy was stereo, those were rarer than the monos. What incredible luck!
If she did not have such an honest face, it being a stereo copy would
suggest her story was bogus! Apparently not!

I can't believe she would allow him to handle it without a protective sleeve.

Heck! watching it I was affraid he was spitting on it he was talking so close and loudly.

kinda looks like a repro. With no hype sticker or vintage price tag I would be very sceptical.

I doubt Perry Cox is selling a repro. It was likely pulled from a box and stored away.

The record's cover is in amazing shape, STEREO, and she's almost certain that she bought it in a Sears. Amazing!!!

I love how at the end of it the appraiser says she should frame it and have it as a piece of art on her wall and she sarcastically says "And a lovely one at that."

  23. I thought he may have split the bottom side seam from quick placement back on the easel ...

We'll see where this sealed MONO gets to in 7 days from now ...
