The drawing on the cover of Road To Ruin was actually based on a drawing of Slade, by Mike Raxworthy. I had it on a t-shirt about 1973 or '74.

Slade cartoon tee shirt by Mike Raxworthy around 1973

...Both the REO Speedwagon album with " Can't Fight This Feeling " (+ picture- sleeved 45 released from it) and a Greg
Allman solo album have design elements/
trade dress that emulate such and some art from early science-fiction pulp magazines!

Actually the Stand Up cover is a wood carving not a drawing. The same person did a Yardbirds cover as well.

But it must have been drawn before it was carved, unless the artist just goes at it with his knife "savant" like.

  10. Jethro Tull's "Stand Up" front cover is kind of cute, but the likeness of the characters, excepting Clive's, goes from barely OK (Ian) to downright terrible (Martin)!

I just stumbled across this online:
Sold at auction by Bonhams of London for £5,000 in December 2013
The original cover artwork for the album 'Road To Ruin', by Gus Macdonald. Included in the lot was a photocopy of the $50 cheque, dated 5th December 1978, which the artist eventually received from Sire Records as payment for his work.

14 pages is too much too much to sift through, but all Gorillaz qualify.

Cheap Thrills was on the first page, posted by Plutonio, but since it wasn't tagged, all you can see now is [IMG.] (it's the post with more than 50 likes)

This looks like Bill Plympton artwork.

Three great Jack Davis album covers.

To add to the discussion: Prozzäk (like Gorillaz they are a cartoon band so all of their covers apply).

...SOME Archies albums!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Actually, surprisingly little of their original studio albums, I suppose there may have been some licencing/" pay to use the copyrighted character images " isssues. I remember, too, this early-CD era South Korean cheapie repackages of Archies tracks that had cartoon cutesy teenagers on the cover that weren't actually the Archie characters.
