I'm wondering if it would also be a good idea to use an enzymatic cleaner as an added measure. They're available in pet stores to remove the odors (and enzymes) left by solid and liquid pet stains, which most commercial cleaners for some reason don't remove completely. The idea is the same, that insects leave something chemical behind that others in their species can detect.

I feel for you, I've had things soiled by various vermin, just gives me the creeps thinking about it!

What about those damn price stickers on used LP's that want to take part of the cover with them when you try to peel them off.

    Interesting comments.

I feel for the OP, especially if he Really wants to keep these LPs. What a collector's dilemma!

To the serious comments asking "Why?!?" as if the OP is considering adopting a plague-ridden rat as a pet...
Just to keep things in perspective...
Have you ever bought a used LP? Have you ever consider where THOSE second hand items may have been? From dusty musty garage shelves that may have had bugs and spiders? Hallway floors located next to the bathroom near the family dogs' bed?
Obviously, we will never know the sometimes sketchy backgrounds of the used music we acquire.

Maybe you are too fastidious to allow such tainted items into your abode. If so, I am respectfully envious.

Awwwww... so that's the cause of the funky smell of some of my used records.

I kinda wish I hadn't read the thread title.

Ah Roaches are insects over there in US. It's a type of fresh water fish here. I suppose fishy smelling albums would be worse. Sounds like time to call in pest control. We call them cockroaches - extremely nasty and need eliminating.

Piece of Saran Wrap and an ice cube, get that sticker nice and frozen, should come off a little easier. Depends on the glue. Most of mine did come off, only a select few which I just leave the price on

Save the records then, and toss the jackets.

The thing is, only about 4 out of 45 (which is at least half of the bunch; the ones I thought were the best) has it on them. The rest are clean. I guess they decided to select their favorites. The only thing I had to throw away was one paper inner sleeve, which I replaced with another.

I'm not throwing them away. If anything, I'll just put them in plastic sleeves. A little roach crap isn't going to deter me. :)

Ever open up an electronic device like a radio only to find a lot of dead roaches? The smell is horrible (I don't know how that compares to the smell palmetto bugs gives off). I hope the records you're trying to clean are at least odor free.

They don't smell any worse than something kept in a garage or attic.

THIS has me more puzzled and curious than why someone is undeterred by cockroach droppings... :agree:

Well, I made this thread hoping to find some legitimate answers, but it wasn't the case. It really wasn't supposed to be a joke topic at all.

How do you know it's roach dung? Did the person that gave you the records say it was this or did you identify it yourself? What the heck does roach dung look like and how do you identify it from other insects crap?
