I picked Pavement. The only band that might have made me reconsider that, had they been included, is Sleater-Kinney.

If (the) Pixies had stayed together longer, I would've probably picked them. But, just strictly going by output throughout that decade, it's really hard to beat GBV: VAMPIRE ON TITUS, BEE THOUSAND, ALIEN LANES and UNDER THE BUSHES...

Pavement's oeuvre, at least through WOWEE ZOWEE, is all top form. I do like BRIGHTEN THE CORNERS quite a bit, particularly Mitch Easter's production. I enjoy a few songs from TERROR TWILGHT but I'm not a big fan of Nigel Godrich when paired with Pavement. I went with Pavement as my choice. None other than Robert Christgau claimed them to be the "finest rock band of the '90s," FWIW.

Great piece by Chuck Klosterman for GQ during the 2010 reunion. I think I own the same sweater Stephen Malkmus is wearing in that picture.

    Hmm. :shh:

    Greatest. Indie-est. Band. Ever.

Out of your list, I'm voting Soundgarden.

But to me it's a toss up between The Black Crowes, Cake and Sublime.

From the list I went with Radiohead based simply on my love of The Bends and OK Computer. Toss up between them and Oasis.

Personally my favorite band of the 90s is by far Spiritualized. I'm a big fan of the already mentioned Black Crowes as well and must give a shout out to personally favorites Porcupine Tree, Barenaked Ladies, Tool, Jellyfish and not bands per se but some big faves are Ani DiFranco and Tori Amos as well.

New Radicals better than any of that "grunge" nonsense.

As much as I think the Pixies are a tops on this list, I can't vote for them. They are mostly between decades, unfortunately. They broke up in 1993, and hard to place to the 90s specifically. I saw them during the first leg of U2's Zoo TV tour when they were playing arenas. By the time U2 extended the Zoo TV to stadiums, the Pixies were over. That being said, I picked the Radiohead because they started with the song Creep, which is probably song of the decade and followed up with The Bends and OK Computer. And Nine Inch Nails should have been an the list over bands like Elastica and Blind Melon who were nonexistent for the 2nd half of the decade.

Went with Oasis. They seemed to epitomize the mood of the 90's so well. Letting us choose only one is willfully cruel.

Of those listed it's The Verve for me. Amazing live shows, great studio albums.

Dave Matthews Band, Alice in Chains, Pearl Jam, Nirvana, Soundgarden, Charlatans, Oasis, James, Faith No More, Catherine Wheel, Underworld, Tool, Prodigy, Nine Inch Nails and Smashing Pumpkins all high on my list.

Yes, I like Pet Sounds, Smile, and the other late 60s/early 70s Beach Boys stuff, though they probably wouldn't rank in my personal top 20. (But then, nor would any of the 90s bands I listed.)
