Eva left use with her version of everyone else's songs done better with her beautiful voice.
That above is what I was going to post but figured I'd just get arguments:laugh:

Sam Cooke, Night Beat, this is a singing lesson - the library I used to work for had a songbook where some intrepid soul had attempted to transcribe every little vocal fillip. IMHO he had it all - beautiful voice, smarts, skill, and soul. This whole album is exquisite, well 11/12ths anyway.

I would even go so far as to add another singer who does not "sing well", but whose voice is one of my favorites- J Mascis. In an interview I've got somewhere, J says that people have told him his a good singer or have said they like his singing. He is puzzled by this and says something like, "I know I'm not a good singer," and kind of laughs. Oddly enough, it's J's voice that turned me away from listening to Dinosaur Jr after I read Michael Azerrad's excellent book, Our Band Could Be Your Life. But then years later, I read about Dinosaur in a couple of Henry Rollins' books and I decided it was time to check them out again. I did, and I listened. And I listened some more. The music itself was easy to get into, and before too long, J's voice grew on me. And now Dinosaur Jr is one of my favorite bands and I really like J's singing. It's real, , it's J, I dig it.

When I was a kid I remember there were these two cocks, Frankie and Bing. They made all the chicks lay eggs like crazy.

Or someone from ten thousand years ago. The term "all time" is used really loosely on the forum.

Asking people for "Best Vocalist" is like asking for "best meal", or "best holiday". To my mind, it's totally subjective, and therefore is really about your favourite.
    My picks:
    Paul McCartney
    Joni Mitchell

I'm a bit more contemporary in my tastes so many of you won't enjoy most of my first list below... :) I do like some male singers, too, but can't think of any that match the below to put on the list right now...

    Contemporary
    • Trisha Yearwood (you may not like all of her material, but unlike many artists where there's a specific range in which their vocals are amazing, Yearwood's voice is phenomenal and remains stunningly beautiful across her entire range, from abject belting right on down to whispering)
    • Tina Arena
    • Céline Dion
    • Chantal Kreviazuk
    • Randy Crawford
    • Elkie Brooks
    • Lara Fabian

    Classics
    • Peggy Lee
    • Karen Carpenter
    • Dusty Springfield
    • Julie London
    • Doris Day
    • Barbra Streisand (could go on either list, I suppose, but at her best in the '70s)
