Singers who have voices i enjoy listening to? There are too many, but here are some. I should point out that there are some bands i don't like at all, but i like the singer's voice. Bon Scott Freddie Mercury Roger Taylor[Queen] in his early days. Lemmy Alice Cooper Robin Gibb Barry Gibb Elizabeth Fraser[Cocteau Twins] Devin Townsend June Tabor John Lennon, especially on rockers. Ringo Neil Young Phil Mogg [UFO] Nat King Cole Matt Munro Noddy Holder[Slade] Bjork Sheila Chandra Sam Brown. Both she and Sheila Chandra can no longer sing. Chandra has Burning mouth syndrome, and in 2007 Brown lost her singing voice, for as yet unknown reasons. Don McLean Karen Carpenter Dave Dobbyn[NZ] Shona Laing[NZ] Bowie Joan Armatrading Cass Elliot Crispin Hunt[Longpigs, UK Britpop band] Doug Pinnick[King's X] David Gilmour Brett Anderson in his early Suede days. Jim Diamond[PhD] Gary Brooker[Procol Harum] Johnny Rotten Terence Trent D'Arby Micky Dolenz Mike Nesmith Todd Rundgren Phil Lynott David Byron[Uriah Heep]
Ooh, how could I forget Sam?! Add her to my list, too! Such a loss not to have any new material with that voice.
Holy Crap! Had no idea there was a LIVE VIDEO of Eva's magnificent (best ever, IMO) rendition of "Over the Rainbow"
Best natural voice (male): Sam Cook Best natural voice (female): Karen Carpenter Best voice box for hard rock: Paul Rodgers Best ability to sing both popular and classic song structures: Willy Deville
Pretty sure this version is on this album. From the video, Youtube has lot's of these vids and might have all of them from this night. Restored footage of Eva Cassidy performing Over The Rainbow. The performance took place at the Blues Alley jazz supper club in Georgetown, DC, on the 3rd January 1996 Album Eva Cassidy - Nightbird Recorded live at Blues Alley, Washington, DC by Sound by Charlie on the 3rd of January 1996, except 'Oh, Had I a Golden Thread' recorded at Chris Biondo's studio.
in pop and rock music John Lennon and Jerry Garcia are my top 2 i could list a dozen trained in opera and lieder, that's not part of this though
Bobby Darin - his voice, attitude, and moves - a top vocalist that was with us way too briefly. A true gem of a talent
There are hundreds of singers I enjoy... too many to list them all, by a long way.... Cooke as stated had a beautiful voice Elvis Presley between 60 and 63 was pretty untouchable Ray Charles John Farnham Jimmy Barnes had probably the best rock voice I ever heard from 78 and through the eighties. Bruce Dickinson has a great voice Joe Cocker Pat Benatar Patsy Cline Linda Ronstadt Bjork - perhaps a little unusual, but from the first time I heard Birthday, I loved it. Etta James Mahalia Jackson Anne? Wilson from Heart There are hundreds ... at least
My favorites that combine beauty and expressiveness: Roy Orbison Sam Cooke Elvis Presley Roy Hamilton
This might just be my favorite list of vocalists that anybody has ever come up with on this fine forum. I also like the fact that Roy Hamilton was a great vocal influence on Elvis Presley, who resides at the top of your list. As I imagine you already know, but for the edification of others, Elvis once gave Roy Hamilton a song that he was set to record himself in 1969; Angelica.
Truer words have never been written. I always list Roy Hamilton, Charlie Rich and John Gary as three of the greatest singers that most people have never heard of these days. I believe that Elvis was a pretty big admirer of all three of these marvelous singers.
Eric Burdon, Otis Redding, Sam Cooke, Roger Daltrey, Hoyt Axton (early, folk period), Jackson C. Frank, Fred Neil, Mike Voss, John Lennon, Van Morrison
