I know isn't it great that we can now find these shows in such great sound quality! I have just found an avenue to get the Kraft Music Hall's with Al Jolson in much higher sound quality than I previously had at my disposal, so all of my shows will usually have pretty great sound from hear on out.

I'm glad to see there's enthusiasm for Bing Crosby. I was bemoaning the fact one of the best jazz writers, Gary Giddins, was wasting his time on a 3 volume Bing Crosby biography.

And of course...we have Bing to thank for the great sounds of these shows since he got involved with Ampex after WW2.

I was born 1972 so he is a lot before my time. However about 10 years ago or so I really got into Bob Hope movies through DVDs and from there it wasn't that hard to get into Bing Crosby, so it's incredible how amazing this guy was and it's kind of sad as well that He's kind of Forgotten today. The amount of records that this guy sold is incredible ,how he can be forgotten is a mystery to me. A lot of great movies and a lot of great Tunes.

Another person that I discovered lately and he's actually become my favorite comedian is Jack Benny .I noticed that you posted some Jack Benny related podcasts with Crosby. I'm going to have to look into that.

Apparently, this show was among the first Bing recorded on tape, using early Ampex recorders I believe. Even this 128K MP3 sounds quite good after I EQ'd it and used software to brighten it up a tad... great performances all around. Thanks Dr.!

Where The Blue Of The Night Closing Theme

“Bing Crosby gave a showman’s epitaph to Mark Hellinger on his Philco programme, last Wednesday (4th). Several weeks before the columnist’s death, he appeared as one of Crosby’s guest stars and the plattered show was aired without any revisions, except for one mention by Crosby that, ‘just as his friends would like it, he’s here with us tonight.’ And because of this it was one of Crosby’s crackerjack sessions. Hellinger’s memory has a bit of lustre added to it. Hellinger gave a short plug to his latest film, ‘The Naked City’, exchanged a few gags with Crosby about the ‘good old days’ and set the stage for Dick Haymes and Jimmy Durante, in outlining a mythical, Broadway, legit show. For the rest of the show, Hellinger played straight as Crosby, Durante and Haymes cut some incomparable vocal capers, in a comedy tune about the passing of vaudeville. Everything and everybody clicked with perfect precision and it was a fitting farewell to Hellinger that he should have appeared in this great show.”
