    Does anybody know the history of Hartford recording? To my ears it sounds like a board tape - or a very quickly done rough mix.

    I wouldn't doubt that they did, but I thought you were implying Live Evil might sound like it does in part because of the tones Iommi and Butler were favoring at the time. I don't think that has much to do with it. The midrange added when they were mixing the album sounds positively jacked. Whether this was the engineer's decision, a production decision, the monitors ... who knows? But this has an impact on everything. Appice's drums probably suffer the worst from all of the midrange EQ, IMO.

    I still want to pick this up on vinyl again one day to make sure it wasn't at least a bit in analog.

    Never got this one because of the bad reviews. :shh:


    That frown of the DE vs the old WB of Live Evil accentuates the prominent midrange even more though. The old US WB seems a little more balanced to me. Still bad, but less bad than the DE.
