'Blade Runner 2049' Sequel Series Ordered at Amazon - Variety My gf had never seen either Blade Runner film, so we just did a double-header of them both this past weekend. I literally said to her "they should just make a series on Amazon" for another installment (my idea was also to cast Charlize Theron as a blade runner detective in it). I for one am very excited by this news, the movies while they are cult hits with audiences and critics, tend to underperform in the theater. A series is the perfect milieu for this sci-fi world, as they can go deeper into the stories.
I adore Blade Runner and its sequel. However, after seeing how Amazon botched the source material with Rings of Power, I'm highly skeptical of this. If they can build on the world and hire good writers then this could have some real potential.
There isn't enough information to make a comment. Who's going to be the showrunner? Whats the long term vision? This could go either way.
One of the writers of 2049 is involved, as well as Sir Ridley himself. The showrunner’s name I didn’t recognize. Yes, it’s all in the article.
Sadly, Amazon's track record on TV shows doesn't fill me with confidence for BR99. I mean, ok, there's The Boys. And.............
I've always said that there is so much material there to explore. When Batty says: I've... seen things you people wouldn't believe... Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-Beams glitter in the dark Near the Tannhäuser Gates. All those... moments... will be lost in time, Like tears... in... rain. Time... to die... So there seems so much in that world to explore, both on the earth and off. But after Rings of Power I am worried. It sounds obvious but as long as it's good then it will be a good choice. As long as they don't inject it with a lot needless political agendas.
I have to say, nothing in that article gives me the feeling that the name of Denis Villeneuve did, in the announcement of that project several years ago. Ridley Scott is an executive producer, which doesn't necessarily indicate any creative involvement, and personally I'd lean away from wanting that from him anyway. He and Michael Green, the 2049 co-writer, are among twelve executive producers mentioned, which is just ridiculous, suggesting a project with a pile of money but no strong vision. The only people mentioned as having creative roles (as well as executive credits) are showrunner Silka Luisa and writer Tom Spezialy. Luisa ran Shining Girls, and the TV adaptation of the Halo video game. Spezialy wrote for The Leftovers and, uh, Desperate Housewives.
I just checked a list of (ostensibly) all the best Amazon shows. The only ones I've seen are Vikings and The Expanse, both of which Amazon acquired fully-developed and in progress.
I hope not. But not an expert, casual viewer here. Are replicants biological or synthetic? And Xenomorphs take on a percentage of DNA from their hosts right?
the last blade runner blade runner vs superman blade runner gump blade runner and the temple of doom etc.
Somebody posted a YT clip in another thread here of 40 min of Blade Runner outtakes and alt-scenes. Lots of heavy narration from Deckard, where he claims Tyrell harvests or grows the Replicants at his facility. And we saw some of that in 2049. So there does seem to be a biological component in the way the things are made.
