Wow, that's a hard call ... There are so many great songs in Bowie's catalog.... Moonage Daydream is a great song, but not my favourite lol... Probably Station to Station or Heroes ?
Very difficult...I am going with Sound and Vision Other close contenders: Life on Mars? Station to Station Heroes Ashes to Ashes
Cygnet Committee or Heroes, or ....... there's lots to choose from. I might have once said Lady Grinning Soul, but I've an idea that he pinched the melody.
I don't know, but these are the ones i enjoy the most. Space Oddity Alladin Sane Panic In Detroit The Man Who Sold The World China Girl
Station To To Station and Fantastic Voyage and Heroes and Life On Mars and Ashes To Ashes are up there.
So many. There have been some great choices already (Teenage Wildlife, Life On Mars, Ashes To Ashes) When push comes to shove though my favourite usually boils down to Win from Young Americans. It’s sultry, slinky, shiny and beautifully sung. I wish more people knew it. Someone like you should not be allowed To start any fires
Ashes to Ashes is the answer. No disagreement. That is a fact. Let's not hear anymore about Heroes thank you.
I'm not much of a David Bowie fan, as people have probably gathered by now. Still, apart from Ashes To Ashes mentioned earlier, there are a handful of his songs that I really like. I cou;d probably fill a standard album with a person "best of". One song that I don't often see mentioned is "This Is Not America", possibly because I don't think it was on an album. I think it has an interesting haunting quality.
I think Heroes is his best song - although the single edit is a travesty. The full album version is a masterpiece. There are LOTS of worthy contenders, though. Ashes To Ashes is an incredible song and Sound and Vision is pure genius. Another truly great Bowie song that nobody mentions these days is Absolute Beginners.
Best song? Does he have to have one? Do you mean favourite? Even that is a tall order. Something off Hunky album maybe.... or Aladdin Sane... or Man Who Sold the World.... or Ziggy....? Somewhere around there... One personal fave is John I'm Only Dancing (original non-sax version) Obviously in the larger scheme of song-writing hit tune things, Life On Mars? is a general classic that's pretty hard to beat.
IMO Heroes and Sound and Vision are the twin towers of the catalog. Speed of Life in the instrumental category.
Best-"Heroes" Runners Up: Life on Mars? Lazarus Station to Station Sound & Vision Ashes to Ashes Let's Dance (I know a good portion of the Bowie snobs hate it and hate the era but that groove is irresistible.)
