My friends and I were doing acid for John McLaughlin and Carlos Santana at the Amphitheater in Chicago 1973. Love Devotion Surrender. Sitting right directly above Larry Young on the side. That was pretty awesome. First time I had ever driven in Chicago. No problem. lol Remember eating a bunch of hash for Shakti and Weather Report at McCormick Place in Chicago. Very Mellow... And then there was up all night tripping and going for a drive through the corn fields while the sun was coming up. We had Yessongs playing on a turntable balanced on the front seat between us somehow patched into the radio speaker??? Heart of the Sunrise indeed!
I listened to Beatles-mmt, sgt pepper, inner light, rain. Soft stuff like America Ventura highway and tin man. Pink floyd..dark side and meddle Air...moon safari Flaming lips...yoshimi Radiohead...ok computer but this was more for stuff like 2c-b or AL-LAD too dark for blotters Brian eno Ambient trance Tame impala Grateful dead Phish

Has anyone here tripped while listening to Piper At The Gates Of Dawn? I’m not a drug user but I bet that would be something
I love a lot of psychedelic music and I never took LSD Drugs scare me, especially hallucinating drugs
It's been decades since using any sort of psychoactive agent. But I do remember that no two trips were alike. I discovered to just go with the flow. I recall generally preferring different/varied background music. Speaking of which, side two of Procol Harum's Shine On Brightly is often overlooked as a piece of psychedelia. Side two's In Held Twas In I was a regular soundtrack to some excellent weed.
I plead the fifth. I'm not saying I did, and I'm not saying I didn't, but if I did, it was really something.
Psychedelic music is among my favorite music, yet I not only never took LSD, I've never even smoked pot. The music allows one to get a thrill without any of the negative side effects or long term effects of drugs. I don't need any of that crap. My favorites to listen to: PIPER AT THE GATES OF DAWN REVOLVER SGT PEPPER SATANIC MAJESTIES Much of the NUGGETS and NUGGETS II albums
Same here! Madman Running Through The Fields by Dantalian’s Chariot (or The Animals version) is a nice aural trip too. Also stuff by H.P. Lovecraft
The last time I ever took acid, which was only a handful of times, it was one of the worst experiences I’d ever had up to that point. It seemed endless and I was worried I’d ever get back to normal. When I finally made it back to my apartment, I played the record that was already on the turntable and lay down on the floor. It was Live Evil by Miles Davis. It calmed me down, and I fell asleep for the next 12 hours. I’ll always be grateful to it.
I indulged about 20 times total, all between 1980 and 1996. I had a great, profound experience each time but I made sure to be in a good mood and have a full uninterrupted day in order to devote full time to the experience. Also I never recommend acid to anyone, I just like to give an honest account of how I was affected personally. I remember I must've turned it down ten times or so before ever actually trying it.
I still check in once in a while at 50...wait, I'm 51 now...last time I was 50...started at 16, sometimes it's hairy but I never had the stereotypical "bad trip"...
Agreed! I don't think anyone who hasn't taken it can necessarily begin to imagine how intense and devastating, and at its worst potentially damaging, it can be. It's quite something else compared to the "420 friendly" approach (see OP.)
My friend took a couple of pictures of herself but you can't see anything you'd probably be interested in. I certainly didn't take any. You can't get people to trust you enough (especially women) to create that kind of situation if you're waving phones/cameras around, and you probably can't get them to do it again either if you put it out that kind of vibe. (I must also report that it wasn't in any way any kind of orgy). So far, so good. I can't speak for anyone else but I enjoy the psychedelics. Here are 20 songs from my playlist: The Beach Boys - Steamboat Bill Martin and Phil Coulter - LSD (one of the few disturbing songs I put on there) Joni Mitchell - I Think I Understand The Association - Birthday Morning Blossom Dearie - Sunday Afternoon The Ballroom - Spinning, Spinning, Spinning The Beatles - It's All Too Much (my other female friend liked the song but didn't care for the "long blond hair and your eyes of blue" refrain) The Vince Guaraldi Trio - Christmas Time is Here The Mike Sammes Singers - Youth: Grass on the Pitch Penny Nichols - Summer Rain The Moody Blues - The Best Way to Travel The Mamas & The Papas -Twelve Thirty (Young Girls Are Coming to the Canyon) The Monkees - As We Go Along The Free Design - My Brother Woody Central Nervous System - Alice in Wonderland Crosby & Nash - Song With No Words Herman's Hermits - Little Miss Sorrow, Child of Tomorrow Ruthann Friedman - Hurried Life Rotary Connection - May Our Amens Be True The Cowsills - Ask the Children
Terrific list right here! "Birthday Morning" by the Association (actually the whole Birthday LP) was one of my key tracks for listening in that enhanced state of mind. I also have the Penny Nichols 1967 LP on Buddah and I love Ruthann Friedman, although I only have one track by her under the name the Garden Club, "Little Girl Lost and Found". Some of these tracks I'm not familiar with and I am definitely going to check them out.
Here's another song that really was a gas while "enhanced", The Ashes "Dark On You Now"-I had this on the 1967 "West Coast Love-In " LP -I also liked "Every Little Prayer" by the Ashes on that album. Twelve-string electric guitars really sound good when you're dosed.
