No way could I go British. That would mean no Jazz, blues, R&B, Soul, funk, Hendrix. No way.

That's exactly what I wanted to say, but tact prevented me.

I could have been even less tactless but stopped myself.

That's not surprising as this particular forum is mostly American.

Maybe Elton should stop singing in an American accent then!

Have to be British, as there are 6 British acts and only 2 American in my top 10 favourites (other 2 are NZ and Canadian), but I would be sorry to lose R.E.M.

What is it with these people who can't tell when a question is given a thoughtful answer ?

I was talking about traditional folk music. And it is not difficult to define. I can define it with two words: Woody Guthrie.

Tell that to the guy who listed everyone from Harry Belafonte to the Byrds to Harry Chapin as folk music.

    Hi,

Of course I do recognise this and also that he developed in the USA but, to me, when he moved to the UK with Chas and played with Noel and Mitch he became so much part of the UK music scene that it was as if he was British. He then went back and enthralled the USA and we all loved him.

    All the best,

    Richard

It wasn't a private post. Planetexpress should be able to read it too.

It's not anything that I need to think about. I can define bluegrass with two words as well: Bill Monroe

Do you ever lighten up or are you just humourlessly belligerent all the time?

If you fall for 'British bluegrass is awesome' then I can't really help you.
