Unfortunately, Cambridge has chosen to turn it off for the 851C. I found out this afternoon once mine arrived and I tried a bunch of CDs with Pre-emphasis. Some of these CDs have pre-emphasis the flag, some in the subcode, but for none of them did the 851C de-emphasize.

    No kidding?
Thanks for the info George. Disappointing for sure.

Indeed it is disappointing. It would be less disappointing if I liked the sound of the 851C more, but as it stands, it doesn't seem to be a good match for my system. It has a very analytical, thin sound.

ARGGH! Was hoping this might be one. The term "British sound" floats around a bit. Maybe that is what you are hearing with the 851C?

Maybe, I just know that the sound of the 851C in my system isn't for me.

No financial loss, though, amazon has already issued a prepaid return label and a full refund.

Thanks for taking one, well, a bunch for the team George, some of us do appreciate it.
My thrift had a Yamaha, think it was the 300 (had a USB port in the front) for just over a 100. I may grab it next week, See how it does against my Onkyo 800 :)

    No problem, Cory.

If that is the 300, I would grab it . . . today!

I'll pop back in tonight. I have to figure out how to sneak it past the gal. Always good to have about 6 players for back up purposes right?

    Yep.

    The player is small, only 17-1/8” x 3-3/8” x 10-1/4”

Just tell your gal you have a fever/chills and smuggle it in a winter coat. ;)

Sucks hey. Otherwise such a solid/fast loading mechanism too. The Audio Note CD transport I replaced it with is slow and flimsy by comparison but you don't care if it keeps on working.
