Iam not up with who is doing this but I happened to be in Romania on New year eve 2007 and they put on a live tv extravaganza with Tom Jones & (of all people) Shakin' Stevens!
It's usually bands like Wishbone Ash or Nazareth, both of who have to have beach houses in Estonia by now.
One thing I noticed with "declining" Rock bands in the 1970s and 1980s, releasing singles with the B-side being a live version of one of their earlier BIG hits.
Paul Stanley doing a Motown tribute cd.. good grief he's desperate Doing motown tribute album is true act of desperation.. I grew up listening to originals..
Trying to "remake" older hits. Manic Street Preachers are one band where this can be observed, with 2011's single "Postcards from a Young Man", which sounded very strongly indebted indeed to their signature top-10 hit from 1996 "A Design for Life", as did "Indian Summer" from 2007. Not that I think any of those songs are poor, of course
That has to be absolute sh!te. As bad as just about anything ever recorded. Who buys this kind of crap? Needless to say I listen to the originals too.
Running out of money would mean losing your girlfriends and all your musician-leacher buddies. Next stop: the man in the hoodie with a skeleton face.
I look at live albums as a holding operation-time to go regroup, write and eventually go back into the studio, or at least it used to be. As far as re-recording hits, it’s usually now to own their own masters.
I don't really like Motown but I've heard a few clips of this and it sounds more of a labour of love than an act of desperation. Paul talks in his autobiography about how much he likes this sort of music. It's not for me but it's well enough done.
I disagree. I think it’s a way to refresh material for the artist that might have become boring myself.
Kiss changed their lyrics and certain elements of their show to prevent being arrested & jailed in Dubai, UAE in exchange for a huge payout.
