There's a Top Cat episode where Top Cat, as part of one of his schemes to befuddle Officer Dibble, sends his hepcat cohort Spook out to impersonate a newspaper reporter. Before he leaves, in an effort to get him to tone down his hipster argot, T.C. says, "Now Spooky, remember - you write for The Daily News, not DownBeat"".
The funniest part of this is the last line. No only is he unacceptable because of his inability as a player and unreasonable demands, he's a criminal on top of that! (although it has to said, a lot of real musicians are criminals too)
