I didn't care for a lot of the later more absurd stories and characters from around the mid 1970s onward, with the exception of what may be the first of those, "Mr. Sack", I thought that was brilliant . I never liked Spike, Belle, Olaf, et. al., especially since Snoopy mentioned in 1959 that he didn't have any siblings!
I thought that was fairly well-known among fans. I thought about calling him, but I never did. I did call Quentin Crisp though!
Thanks to this thread, I borrows Peanuts Treasury from the library. What a terrific large b&w collection. I wouldn't mind owning it.
...I found out that the very first Peanuts trade paperback, the one in "Calvin & Hobbes " style was out of print for many years! Insufficiently " on book " re his later style, I guess. I get the PEANUTS- fan " Aaugh! " blog.........
...I guess it could be a combiation of: (1) a certain " TRUE comics buffs appreciate seeing the artist's linework in black and white! ' feeling - " Snobbery "? Other complete editions of classic strip artist's (Caniff, Capp) have done that, too. (2) that printing one page b&w and the next page color is a little impractical. (3) that, at least until recently, old-style pulp paper " analog " coloring is sort of difficult to recreate on a modern book page. p J, post: 6484808, member: 21335"]They sure are ! my only complaint is they are not doing the Sunday's in colour [/QUOTE]
...Does anyone have any familiarity with the body of PEANUTD comics material NOT by Schulz? I refer to the seperate comic-book versions of Peanuts - material published by Dell and Gold Key Comics in the 50s and 60s (other companies, too) - and by Boom! Dtufios' kids' division, Kaboom!, in the 2010s! They were almost entirely NOT by Sparky (though they bore his credit), but were officially authorized! The now-disco tinued Kaboom! seried has been totally/all-but collected on TPBs now. A book of at least some of the Dell/Gold Key material is planned. In the late 90s, Comic Buyer's Guide published a memoir piece by the artist who was the first of the " ghost Sparkys " on the D/GK version, I believe it can still be found on the Web. It provides some interesting insight!
...The fact that the first book collection of " Peanuts " - the one titles just ' OEANUTS " - was OOP for many years, a comment as to why the " Complete..." Fantagraphics books printed the Sundays in black and white, and an introduction to the comic book, not newspaper strip, versions of Sparky'smasterwork! Ya silly! ...That " Dell Archive " book I mentioned, of the Dell PEANUTS original comic-book stories that I mentioned, is our now. Check Amazon, I cannot, now, link.
I'm in the dog house again with she who must be obeyed. I ordered a cinema 'poster' of the Peanuts Movie from a dealer on e-bay without checking the size. Turns out on arrival it is more a banner than a poster - 12 feet by 8 feet!!!! I suppose I could hang it on the outside of the house?
