I didnt like CB cut of Eric Clapton's Money and Cigarettes, original cut by Mike Fuller at Criteria is way better in this instance. JG
I agree with the Bellman enthusiasm here. CB is a great thing to see in the deadwax. We're lucky he's around and productive. There are others though, Grundman, Gray, Hoffman, RK Smith. These initials carry the torch from the likes of so many others RL(still working but only digital), LH, GK, KP, LH, Wally, Porky... I'm just glad we can look in the deadwax and still find good news these days. CB does it for me.
I research like crazy, before I ever order. Rarely check the wax, since my ears tell me it's a Grundman, or a Bellman. But yes, I agree...we are Blessed. .
I'm really happy with his remasters of: Joni Mitchell Fleetwood Mac Black Sabbath Neil Young Tom Petty Van Halen ZZ Top Van Morrison Bruce Springsteen Talking Heads Love Alice Cooper Television Little Feat Ramones Grateful Dead Chicago Etc. He's really the cutting guy I trust the most these days.
He is a really top mastering engineer. Most of his LP's Ive heard sound great. I thought that the Foo Fighters reissues were great. However, I find some of his records are quite bright. A good example of this is 'The Colour and the Shape', which I find is ear bleedingly bright on tracks such as Monkey Wrench. I believe it is possibly more when he is cutting from a digital source, as this title was the only digitally sourced Foos album of that bunch I believe. That criticism is only for a very small minority of his work though...I don't have many duds from him at all, most of them are some of my best sounding records. I believe he likes to cut with minimal EQ from the source. His cut of Neil Young, Harvest is absolutely outstanding.
I have and love all his Van Halen Roth-era LP remasters, I even prefer his cut of S/T over Mr. Hoffman's (sorry) cut. I also have the 192/24 downloads and they have never sounded that good on digital.
Something / Anything arrived today. Didn't know it existed until I was perusing the SACD thread, and others recommended this. Sounds fantastic !
Every record I have that was mastered by him sounds great. I particularly love the Stooges "Fun House". Except for the Ramones "Road To Ruin" Rhino reissue which has some sibilance I never could get rid of no matter what cartridge or alignment I used. Maybe a bad copy, I never tried a second one. The early Brazilian pressing has no sibilance in the same parts.

There are two different pressings of The Who Who's Next on Classic Records cut by CB. Does anyone know for sure if the second one is a repress or just a continuation of the first run with different jacket? Chris's initials on the one are right after the matrix and the other has his initials about 3/4 of the way around so they appear before the pressing matrix. Are they really different runs? I have both and submitted the second one as a separate pressing but someone else on discogs thinks it was actually part of the first run and shouldn't be placed as a repress. These are the only pressings I have that I listen to.
The Clash Hits Back An awesome set of tunes, great for the beginner Clash fan, and a must have for the veteran fan. Really, really well mastered. It’s a fun thing to own.
Thanks. The Triumph belongs to my father, the MG in behind is mine. He’s got a bigger budget than I do.
The first Classic Records pressing of “Who’s Next” was pulled quickly because there were complaints it was cut too hot and caused some needles to jump. A new cut came out and was used for the ongoing 200 and 140 gram releases.
Just received the reissues of CSN and Daylight Again, already have originals but a little beat up, was happy to see the hype sticker that said mastered from analog masters by Chris Bellman
Yesterday I read that Chris did these ....I love CSN and it will be an auto-buy for me but let us know how you like them both if you would. Glad you scored!
So why in the Hell isn't Acoustic Sounds bragging about Chris' mastering ? I specifically checked when I got their email, and they make it look like a ho-hum release ! Thank you @Senor Muddy !
