I really like CB's work but that Beck album has 4 mastering engineer credits and the digital clocks in at a ear fatiguing DR4. (4 songs at DR3). I'm sure the vinyl sounds better but that album had yet to be mentioned in this appreciation thread.
Beyond that even, four different engineers are given mastering credits for Colors (CB, Emily Lazar, Randy Merrill and Tom Coyne).
CB's initials are also inscribed on recent Metallica reissues and I can only say that he did amazing job on RtL and MoP reissues. Great sound.
CB does the analog vinyl mastering, so that is what he needs to be judged on. the vinyl of Beck's Colors sounds great and that is down to CB's superb mastering.
None, it was a mistake. And the Ramones record have no sibilance. Everything is wrong in this post. I regret it and I wish I could delete it.
Does anyone in this thread know if a CB cut of Ryan Adams Ashes and Fire exists? There is a rumour it does and I really love his cuts of the other RA records.
My son stopped by Cracker Barrel this past Sunday, and while waiting for his to go order, spied this in the rack : Otis Redding - The Dock Of The Bay after verifying it's pedigree on Discogs, we stopped by last night, and retrieved it from where he had hidden it.
Not sure if it has been mentioned yet but the reissue of the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band's - Will The Circle Be Unbroken Triple LP that Capitol Records put out in 2013 is an amazing Chris Bellman mastering job. The musicianship, the amazing sonics and the wonderful songs make this a psychedelic experience all on its own.
Chris Bellman has also cut Bruce Springsteen - Western Stars. I thought it was SB in the dead wax until someone posted up an image of his initials.
