For the opera specialists over there... does anybody know if this 22-CD set by Leontyne Price contains her best recordings?

    https://www.amazon.co.uk/Leontyne-P...&qid=1575914315&sprefix=leonty,aps,364&sr=8-2

I do not know how was her career in terms of contract with recording labels... if her best are on RCA etc... nor if these particular opera recordings are in general considered first rate as a whole.

    regards,
    DB

Yes - they are excellent recordings and a bargain price! Other fine recordings, of Aida and Ariadne auf Naxos, are owned by Decca and are not included in the box but you could acquire those separately.

    My Bruno Walter arrived!
Target's packing was disappointing, it was basically just a cardboard box with absolutely no other protection, no bubble wrap, no nothing.
Miraculously, the box set is in perfect condition

Actually, I think DHL is fantastic. I have had several large boxes sent from Japan to the US and it was a smooth and efficient experience. This was from Amazon.jp.

Japan’s Amazon is amazing with shipping to the US. Most often my items are here in less than 48 hours. They package nicely as well, usually with the discs sealed with plastic to a cardboard piece the same size as the inside of the box.

There is an upcoming Brilliant Classics box set of Russian Chamber Music-25 CDs. It includes many works by composers who may not be generally known in the west and seems to comprise newer recordings judging by the list of performers.

I'm glad Target came through for you! I've had bad experiences with their stuff (like Szell) being vaporware and then getting cancelled. Maybe they can go back on my list as a possible supplier.

Like others, got my Bruno Walter box from Arkiv yesterday. The outer box was on the verge of giving up the ghost, but inside the box set was pristine (and in shrink-wrap). +1 for ordering domestic.

I posted sound quality impressions in the classical discussion thread. I'm super impressed with the sound quality. Per the booklet it looks like everything I had an issue with mastering wise in a previous version has been redone here. Link Listenin' to Classical Music and Conversation

I don't know who is left for conductors I'd buy a mega box from other than Rozhdestvensky, I hope this spending madness will start to slow down as the number of sets that interest me start to decrease.

Just got this e-mail from Challenge Records:

Complete Bach Cantatas (67CD box-set) - Ton Koopman & Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra & Choir
Now available, a new box with the Complete Bach Cantatas, performed by Ton Koopman and Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra & Choir, with 67 CD's.

Challenge Classics finally re-issues a reference edition of Bach's Complete Cantatas, now offered at a new price! Between 1994 and 2004, Koopman conducted and recorded all existing cantatas by Johann Sebastian Bach, a massive undertaking for which he was awarded the Echo Klassik Award, a BBC Award, and was nominated for both a Grammy Award® and the Gramophone Award.

    Bio - Ton Koopman
Born in Zwolle (The Netherlands) Ton Koopman had a classical education and studied organ, harpsichord and musicology in Amsterdam. He received the Prix d‘Excellence for both instruments. Naturally attracted by historical instruments and fascinated by the philological performance style, Koopman concentrated his studies on Baroque music, with particular attention to J.S. Bach, and soon became a leading figure in the “authentic performance” movement.

Among Ton Koopman’s most ambitious projects has been the recording of the complete Bach cantatas, a massive undertaking for which he has been awarded the Deutsche Schallplattenpreis “Echo Klassik”, the BBC Award, the Hector Berlioz Prize and has been nominated for the Grammy Award (USA) and the Gramophone Award (UK). In addition to the works of Bach, Koopman has long been an advocate of the music of Bach’s predecessor Dieterich Buxtehude and following the completion of the Bach project, he embarked in 2005 on the recording of the Buxtehude-Opera Omnia. The edition consists of 30 CDs, the last having been released in 2014. Ton Koopman is President of the International Dieterich Buxtehude Society. In 2006 he was awarded the Bach-Prize of the City of Leipzig, in 2012 the Buxtehude Prize of the city of Lübeck, and in 2014 he received the Bach Prize of the Royal Academy of Music in London.

Does anyone have any experience of purchasing from FYE online? They are having a 20% off sale.

J.A.W.'s post eventually led to my considering the Kuijken Bach set on Accent for $43.19 and free U.S. shipping.

I placed my first order yesterday. I don't imagine I'll be doing a lot of business with them but I'll see how things go with this order.

I have the Bach liturgical year box which is a nice set.
