    Surprise!

The Galleria CD sounds more open and vivid than the NR'd Originals CD. So I am very glad to have it! :goodie:

    Now playing:

    No, thank you!
Strange, however, I was expecting it to take ages to arrive.
Your CDs haven't showed up yet, I'll let you know :)

However, I must say I love Backaus' masculine, almost german Chopin, I'm surprised you don't.

    Morning all.

Now playing this CD, which arrived from Presto late last week after having been on back order ...

    I'm not the least surprised.
Originals CDs always sound suspiciously NR'd to me.
BTW, would you care to post one or two 60 sec samples of each issue just to have an idea?

    Thanks, on my watch list.
However, you don't like Dhnaànyi's Ninth or do you just find his reading of 7&8 more interesting?

I'm not familiar with Tipo's recorded output but I've read a few articles and interviews and she struck me as a brilliant, witty and laid back lady.
(Would I be somewhat annoying or politically incorrect if I added "remarkably beautiful in her time"?)

    Any advice is welcome!

I bought this set a few years ago. How many of us in this corner now own this set?

It is a great set. It has the best version of SP's greatest work, The Sixth Symphony.

Prokofiev I remember from way back when I was a Kid for Peter and The Wolf.
Waaaay before my interest in Classical Music.
Dukas Sorcerers Apprentice is another....which reminds me I need to get the best copies of both for my Collection.
UGGGG more to add to the "round to it" list!

IIRC, the performance was quite good. At any rate, works of Profokiev are not something I listen to very often ...

I am curious why Prokofiev is ignored here. One member even posted that he sold all of his recordings of SP. Reasons?

I am simply more preoccupied with works of other composers such as JS Bach and Beethoven and of course early music. I find myself not even listening to Tchaikovsky, the greatest of all Russian composers too often. I was shocked that a member of an all-classical music forum claimed he could not stand the works of Tchaikovsky ...

And Marston could make his remastered/reconstructed CD's a lot more listenable and enjoyable for those of us who do not like to spin vinyl or 78RPM's ...

I love those Vivaldi concerti for stringed instruments, esp. 425.

I cannot say I am a big fan of Prokofiev. I only have about a dozen LP's/CD's of his works, pretty inconsequential for the size of my classical music library. He still fares better than Copland and Gershwin in my collection though ...

He's talking about me, everyone. To me, Prokofiev's music is boring. I can't wait for it to be over, so I can play something I like. I'm this way with a lot of things. If I don't like the first half hour of a movie, I'll turn it off or leave the theatre. If a book doesn't draw me in by page 50, bye-bye, book. And I'm quite certain I've listened to it enough to know I don't like it. No need to go there.

But I don't find it "curious" that everyone's taste doesn't mirror mine. If everyone liked only what I liked, we'd be in thread #5 or 6, not thread #14.

    Chacun, baby, chacun.

I like Dohnányi's 9th a lot, would recommend it over Szell [nasty sound] and Reiner [too German an interpretation]. There's some Czech conductors I prefer in the Ninth, like Kubelik, but I prefer Dohnányi's 7th & 8th to anybody else's.
