Thanks for the link George, but... Now listening to CD 5 from "Liszt - Solo Recordings" performed by Claudio Arrau on Decca. SONETTO 104 DEL PETRARCA BALLADE N.2 IN B MINOR SONETTO 123 DEL PETRARCA VALLÉE D OBERMAN VALSE OUBLIÉE N.1 IN F SHARP LES JEUX D EAUX À LA VILLA D ESTE 2 CONCERT STUDIES
I'm only on my first listen to this box (although I've been through the vinyl edition several times over the years) and must dedicate more time to it.
I just think Lisitsa misses a lot of expressive possibilities with phrasing, bringing out interesting voices, dynamics, etc. Sadly, Pogorelich took an alarming bad turn about 10-15 years ago and now plays pieces often at a glacial tempo with distorted dynamics. I know he's gone through some bad times (losing his father and wife in the span of of a year or so), so obviously some psychological effects would be normal, but there is something seriously wrong with his playing these days. Until the year 2000 or so, he was a genius. Listen to his recording of Ravel's "Gaspard du la nuit"--it's breath-taking.
I don't know why Delos's recordings of the DSO with Litton didn't get more attention. Litton had a way with the music, the DSO is a powerhouse orchestra, and Delos made some really nice recordings with fantastic dynamics. Maybe because they didn't embrace SACD (this one actually is available as a stereo SACD, but most aren't)? Litton did 2-6 with the DSO.
Now listening to "Liszt - Piano Sonata in B minor/Scriabin - Piano Sonata No. 2" from the 'Pogorelich' box set on DG.
The 5th is good, and I don't have any problems with the other middle symphonies (6th & 7th). Hard to say, it's a long time of the last listening...
Good peopla at the eClassical won't forget us. This time it's especially for the friends of old music: http://www.eclassical.com/labels/bis/biber-the-rosary-sonatas.html
Now listening to CD 2 "12 Etudes d'execution transcendante" from "Liszt - Solo Recordings" performed by Claudio Arrau on Decca.
Karajan didn't record Mahler's 7th symphony. I suspect it would have been interesting. As I recall, Karajan only recorded symphonies 4-6 and 9.
Correct. I have no idea why he didn't record any of the others. Unlike apparently a lot of people here I do like his Mahler, and to my ears his two versions of the 9th are excellent.
Sure? I think I have an old LP-box. Of course, that could be just a falsi alarmi... Oh, just noticed J.A.W. confirmed: no seventh. My bad.
Finally got the (Young) Danish String Quartet's Nielsen quartets discs. & It's going to be interesting listening...

This Schumann: Dichterliebe is one of my favorites. Fischer-Dieskau is a master. And it has the excellent piano of Christoph Eschenbach. It was recorded in 1979.
