I started with No.3 from this set and thoroughly enjoyed it. Uchida provides a great mix of poetry and power, to which Rattle and the BPO respond in kind. The sound is weighty, detailed, and well-balanced.
At the reminder of @princesskiki , now enjoying this splendid CD, which contains my favorite performance of the third piano concerto. More info in this thread: The Rachmaninov Piano Concerto 3 Review Project
Continuing my exploration of Ligeti: Ligeti: Violin Concerto, Lontano, Atmosphères, & San Francisco Polyphony. Benjamin Schmid; Hannu Lintu: Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra. Ondine.
Now enjoying this complete set of Chopin etudes (the three Nouvelles Etudes are included), recorded in Japan in 2012. Sadly, already OOP.
Fortunately it's available on Qobuz! Thanks for posting it. Sounds great. His Liszt and Scriabin recordings are excellent, too.
After 7 etudes from the Gekic CD, I decided I wasn't in the mood for his playing tonight, so I grabbed this CD instead. Earl plays with great musical depth and excitement. You'd never know he was 77 years old when this was recorded. And the recorded sound, by Chesky, is, as always, superb!
One of my first classical CD purchases and still one of my favorites, especially the Mozart 40th symphony, which is graceful and bold. I've yet to hear another recording of this work that can hold a candle to this one.
I just bought the LP of this (with syms. 35 and 39) after hearing Szell’s praises for years. I’m excited to finally hear what the fuss is all about!
I would like to order a copy of these recordings but noticed there are various issues on CD. Is the sound quality on this particular issue good?
Eduard Melkus, a very talented violinist, is well recorded on this set from 1968. Eduard Melkus, Huguette Dreyfus, Lionel Rogg, Karl Scheit et al. Biber: Mystery Sonatas Archiv Codex, 1993 recorded 1967 in Vienna, Studio Wien-Film, Rosenhugel. engineer: Klaus Scheibe 2 CDs
