Compilation albums which could be part of an artists core studio albums

Superchunk - Tossing Seeds

 

One of my favourite compilations is "Forever Gold" by The Isley Brothers.

It's just a 10 track compilation from the mid-seventies. I bought it when it came out and then again later on CD.

The track sequencing is just perfect in my opinion and it could easily be a 'proper' album.

I believe it was different in the U.S.

 

Crowded House-Afrerglow. A collecti0n 0f b-sides amd alternate takes that easily rank up there with their BBEdit albums.

 

Rem0te Luxury-a collecti0n of their EPs made into an album by the U.S. and European labels of The Church. A great album!

 

Ah if Van’s latest album was this good!

 

The entire Anthony Phillips Missing Links series... a round up of all his soundtracks/one off compilation tracks. All 4 (plus the Extras discs) albums worth are great!

 

Keeping it in the Genesis camp, Peter Gabriel’s soundtrack round up Rated PG works really well for me

 

Suede- Sci Fi Lullabies, especially disc 1.

 

The second half of this comp has some of my all time favorite Jawbreaker songs

 

Ozric Tentacles - Afterswish
A compilation from their early cassette releases. It has an excellent track flow with some crossfaded tracks that sound like they belonged together, and three exclusive tracks.

I've not listened to the whole of their discography but that's my favourite album by them.

 

Jimi Hendrix-Smash Hits.

The UK version even more so since it contains all 4 A-sides and B-sides of the stand alone singles released up to that point. The US version is almost as essential since it has the three tracks from UK AYE left off for the A-sides as well as Stone Free. But it's missing at the very least the two B-sides from the AYE era. War Heroes was supposed to make up for this but in the end only included Highway Chile.

 

The Stone Roses - Turns into Stone
wonderful collection of stray tracks, to accompany the classic debut album.

 

Belle & Sebastian ‎– Push Barman To Open Old Wounds.

 

That’s what comes to my mind as well.
