Willie may have struggled a bit, but damn if Trigger didnt look good.
I think thats the cleanest that old guitar has looked in years.
    God bless ya, Willie!

It's been posted before in Willie threads, but part 1 of restoring and keeping 'Trigger' alive for those who haven't seen.

Willie lived the life of ten people. A kind of guy you write books about. What a legend.

Its a proven scientific fact that grass has as many carcinogens in it as does tobacco...

So logically that part of his lifestyle has greatly contributed to the man's breathing problems...

    Need I say more

I just watched the performance and it brought a tear to my eye. I love Willie. He probably shouldn't be performing anymore, but it's what he has done his entire life. The curtain is about to come down on one of the greatest. He hung in there for so long and still hanging on until his last breath.

He's 86! Even without the decades of smoking he would be in some other struggle to still perform. I say he is the perfect example to smoke up!

My grandfather never smoked a day in his life and died at 77. He couldn't sing this good when he was 30.

  7. ...and then BAM! - he ends up in a place you didn't expected him to be. But it works!

The funny thing is, Willie has always been good guitar player, but I don't know if he was holding back for decades, or what, but the older he has gotten the more adventurous his playing is...or he's just now showing us over the decade or so.

He's always been a jazz lover, but even around 1998 or so, his shows were filled with just the songs.

Now go to see him and it's a jam session of the highest class and order. There's a loose setlist and Willie just takes off!

And honestly, the band isn't that great, but he trusts them because they can follow him. Maybe that does make them great, simply because they are so turned into him.

In fact, Trigger sounds a little bit junkie, yet it's such a unique tone that you're forced to listen.

Oh, and then his sister, Bobbie, plays with him on most dates. She's damn fine on the piano. A technician. She's 88-years old.

I thought it was a stellar performance from a man who will always be a legend. He seemed really into the song and the meanings of the words:

"Have you been half asleep, and have you heard voices?
I've heard them calling my name
Is this the sweet sound that calls the young sailors?
The voice might be one and the same
I've heard it too many times to ignore it
It's something that I'm supposed to be
Someday we'll find it, the rainbow connection
The lovers, the dreamers, and me. "

    No more need be said.

Willie has been a big fan of Django Reinhardt since forever.
This is nothing new, he has spoken about him often about his influence on his playing
and picking the Martin guitar in the first place to get into that 'spirit'.
Willie seems where he wants to be doing this kind of material.
This highlights some of the reasons that make Willie an extraordinary guitar player.

Blah Blah Woof Woof, frankly I could care less if someone blatantly ignores the inevitable & puffs their way into the proverbial dirt nap...

I for one smoked (both) for 5+ decades before quitting 6 yrs ago...

But to each his own & its only a opinion so slow your roll man

Best wishes to a living legend! He has been talk-singing songs for a long long time. I've noticed Paul Williams does it as well. C'est la Jazz.

The inevitable is he is 86 and would be heading that way regardless of if he smoked or not. It's a dumb argument.

It would not do for Willie Nelson to die in a nursing home. I can confidently predict that he will die on the road, in his tour bus or collapsing having just come off stage - and I'm sure he wouldn't want it any other way.

By the way, when I was on the Outlaw Country Cruise, I saw a film about Willie's recently departed roadie Ben Dorcy III, known to everyone in the Willie Nelson family as "Lovie." It was directed by two of Willie's daughters.

  23. And that's just the light stuff!

I love it when Willie plays that jazz in the country music. That's really when he takes off!

Nice that we see Bobbie in the video, too.
