Oh - and it has to be the Spector version with strings - no Naked/Anthology "This is how it should sound" malarkey.
Very embarrassing... But then again no... Elton John - First Episode at Hienton Seasons in the Sun Don't You (Forget About Me) Amazing Grace (Royal Scots Dragoon Guards version) Annie's Song (James Galway) The flute theme from Star Trek TNG: The Inner Light Probably more. I'm pretty emotional about music.
"Good Night" by the Beatles. Gorgeous tune. Ramsey Lewis also did a beautiful, imaginative cover, My favorite Beatle cover by a wide margin.
Not 100% sure I'd classify these as corny, but definitely brings out the sentimental in me. Each of these songs do something that I love in blending an incredible melody with poignant lyrics. The Water is Wide The water is wide, I can't cross o'er And neither do I have wings to fly Build me a boat, that can carry two And both shall row My love and I Wild Mountain Thyme O the summer time has come And the trees are sweetly bloomin' The wild mountain thyme Grows around the bloomin' heather Will ye go, lassie, go? And we'll all go together To pull wild mountain thyme All around the bloomin' heather Will ye go, lassie, go? My Heart Will Go On Near, far, wherever you are I believe that the heart does go on Once more, you open the door And you're here in my heart And my heart will go on and on
Containing one of my favourite lines: " A crushing blow from a big right hand sent a Louisiana man to the Promised Land" Great song and a deserved Number One hit.
The Poppy Family..."I Was Wondering"-This was the first Poppy Family song I ever bought, circa April 1971 when I was 14. Could not resist the earnestness of Susan Jacks's singing...she sounded like a flower child critiquing the cold cruel world. I also really dug the horn arrangement...and drums!
“Pink Triangle” by Weezer (by most standards that’s old enough right?) about a girl who (I don’t think) was even a lesbian . Tami in Arizona, were you the one who got away?
"Listen People" by Hermans's Hermits-I remember back in the 80s a DJ played this on the local AOR station in order to make fun of it, but I really like it.
