Man, I love this Motown-styled theme! That swing, that drum beat, the smooth bassline... That sax is the icing on the cake.

Looking for confirmation as to whether that's an actual song that was repurposed/edited into the theme or if it was merely written and performed for the show's theme and that's it?

No one? Guess I might have to assume it was just made specifically for the show, then.

It's simply one of several re-arrangements/re-recordings of "Kiss Me" (by Cosby & Stu Gardner) that was used during the course of the series.

If it exists, it's an "actual song." I get triggered with this wording because it reminds me of when I play a song on guitar and my wife asks me, "Is that an actual song or something you wrote?" :)

Did you listen to the video? It's a completely different song. I don't hear any similarities whatsoever between the two.

It is the same theme, rearranged to sound like "Shotgun" but I can recognize it.

Interesting. Definitely not obvious. Completely different arrangement but even then, I am struggling to identify the melody being similar. Oh well, that answers my question.

Would be nice to see if a longer version of the arrangement I posted has ever been published but now that a name was kindly provided, I'll see if that's available. :)

Yes, I did. Perhaps you should listen to it again. It is most definitely the same song.

I stopped watching that show after maybe the second or third season but I remember one later credit sequence had the cast dancing ballet while an orchestra played a classical arrangement of that tune.

There were a couple of records of music from that show in the 80's (I never heard them).

I can hear the "Kiss Me" theme in there, but it's definitely been heavily rearranged to sound like "Shotgun". Some of the instrumentation is so similar (the guitar strums in particular) that I actually wondered if perhaps they had sampled one or more parts from the original "Shotgun"... I don't think they did, but with the way copyright lawsuits get tossed around these days, I'm surprised someone hasn't caused a fuss over this track yet!
