Fire and flood accidents at vaults/studios became an excuse very quickly (and I told that before). Too bad if those tapes are really lost forever. [Edit:] Ugh... why does this always happen with (historical) recorded material!?

Two things: 1) At that time, the value of session tapes/outtakes was not what it was later. 2) It's doubtful that much thought was given to potential disasters. As far as fans go, some would no doubt do their best, but my guess is very few have climate controlled, fire resistant vaults to store things.
Hopefully the labels have now scanned and backed up all remaining session tapes to digital in case of any future potential disasters. I remember reading Bill Levenson talking about the missing Layla session tapes that he accidentally stumped upon at Sterling Sound in late 80s. Such a historic album and nobody really knew when and how those tapes landed up there. We’re lucky someone didn’t accidentally throw them out over the years! Btw, that might have been a blessing coz else it’s possible they could’ve landed up at same NJ tape warehouse that went up in flames.
It would have depended on if they had been turned over to PolyGram already or not. And regardless, I *think* session tapes from that time period were somehow safe, although I'm not certain.
We know that there is no DG Box Set because of what they had released for the 2004 Deluxe Edition.... how do you know they won't do anything for WOF?? I think it is still possible
I hate to quote myself ...... but in the past I made a thread on a hypothetical and unrealesed "Disraeli Gears Super Deluxe Edition" but it was deleted! I re-proposed that list on another thread and there would be material for a box of 3 CDs. I wanted to make a similar list for "Wheels of Fire" but having seen the previous ones I gave up. Surely someone else can do it, in this forum there are very knowledgeable people, I'm just a passionate fan!
You may appreciate this guitar geek fact, I certainly never knew this until this morning. In the new Eric Clapton Live photography book (I don't own it) there is a picture of Clapton playing live with Cream using a Stratocaster. I tried to take a screen shot of it from youtube and edit it as best I can.
In this fantastic site there is a photo where Jack Bruce and Eric Clapton play in concert with the Fender. I would be curious to know why? Tour Pics
that’s the very picture I’ve just spent ages cropping and messing with only to find out it would not let me upload. Thanks
It looks like Bruce is using a Jazz bass too. Maybe a Fender salesman met them back stage trying to promote their product.
Thanks for sharing this, I had no idea Eric experimented with a stratocaster during the Cream days. He’s mentioned in interviews that it was Buddy Guy and Jimi Hendrix who drew him towards the strat. He also played Telecaster with Cream at a gig or two (see picture below). I think the body of this guitar and the neck of the Brownie created the Blind Faith telecaster the following year. Edit - the picture link doesn’t seem to be working but you can see it by searching images on Google.
have all the EC fender combos checked in....... stratocaster telecaster w/ strat neck stratocaster w/ tele neck
