Any chance the title is compilation instead of collection? http://www.allmusic.com/album/the-king-kong-compilation-the-historic-reggae-recordings-mw0000076386
That's the one we are talking about, even though they are listing CD issues I'm still not 100% convinced there are CD issues of it, the catalogue numbers they give are the same as the vinyl, I'll have to go and look through my Island/Mango CDs and see if the early ones used the LP numbers. The original vinyl album was released before CDs were launched and as far as I'm aware was never repressed on vinyl, but maybe they did do a run of CDs and I just missed them, there are plenty of Reggae CDs that seem to have vanished from the market.
This thread inspired me to check out Burning Spear on my space. he has his own radio channel and I just listened to and loved Marcus Garvey in it's entirety. awesome thread.
from Wackies, one of the few non-Jamaican labels, and the only US reggae label worthy of consideration:
anyone have thoughts on which is better for the Rockers soundtrack: the old Mango CD or the remastered CD?
The UK based Studio 1 / Soul Jazz set-up has yielded many great compilations, but I especially love this less well known one, and play it a lot more often than I thought I would. Studio One Funk Various Original 7" Selection All tracks (recorded mid to late 60s / early 70s) are very well sequenced.
Sorry I can't comment on any of the CDs, but there are some very special moments on the LP soundtrack. It's unfortunate the amazing (extended) 12" 'Theme From Rockers' / 'Rockers' by Bunny Wailer and released on his own Solomonic label is now so hard to come by.

An out and out killer. The 12" Sons Of Slaves on Upsetter 12" Disco Cork is even more crucial. *Note typical Jamaican printing error. Julia indeed !
Thanks for mentioning! Today I received a new makasound CD "The Mighty Three's - Africa shall strecth for her hand" from Amazon France for about 8 euros including shipping. Excellent album(s).
Great! Riccardo, I am glad you like it. It's a great album, and Makasound is a great label. They also have the great "Inna De Yard"series
More wicked sounds from Studio One through Soul Jazz. Studio One Scorcher Instrumentals A killer selection from the best Ska tracks through to Jazz tinged Roots Reggae, spread over 3 LPs. This is a great big slice of crucial Jamaican instrumental music!
Rock 'n' Groove is fantastic ! beware , only the UK & JA vinyl has the complete Showcase versions (except for Cool Runnings)
I finally received the Lee Perry Arkology 3CD set that I mentioned ordering earlier in this thread. I haven't had the chance to listen yet but I have flipped through the 52-pg booklet and it's great. There are some great rootsy dubs on this one, as well as some genuine classics from Junior Murvin, Max Romeo, Jah Lion, etc.
question for the reggae experts here: has the original 1969 Studio One recording of the Abyssinians' "Satta Massagana" ever appeared on CD? the recording on the album of the same name is of course a re-recording from the mid-70s... thanks for any info.
