Yeah, there's definitely a quote somewhere from GM mentioning the stereo Rubber Soul mix being made to accommodate mono playback, but I can't remember the source. On the U.S. mono Help!, I was thinking it'd be off with the 3dB gain on the vocals, but I seem to recall being surprised the last time I threw on the mono, thinking it sounded O.K. and the levels worked. I'll have to listen again.

Capitol went the extra mile by adding delay on one channel (like Ticket to Ride) imparting that special Duophonic creamy goodness.

It's a bit of a joke about the Dexterized fake stereo version of "She Loves You." There's so much reverb added that it sounds like it was recorded in an airplane hangar or other huge space.

I'd still rather have that than a repeat of the mono version, as was done on the stereo portion of The Beatles Second Album in the U.S. Albums box.

It wasn't a GM decision. It was an EMI demand at the time for EVERYONE in regards to mixing. It didn't obviously last long, though.

I like the fact that you have couched many of your comments with "I Think, I feel, or to me they appear." As these are your opinions. But saying US Help is a complete mess is also just your opinion, some here like it.
And sorry, but your "2019 eye" is no more objective than those who disagree with you. The definition of objective used as an adjective is: "based on real facts and not influenced by personal beliefs or feelings." -Cambridge University Press.

I know you and others have repeatedly stated your beliefs...but there is no right or correct answer to something as subjective the appreciation of music or one compilation vs another. I will agree that the Capitol albums are not what was originally recorded and compiled as the British albums. Whether that makes them inferior is still simply a matter of taste.

Good point. Oldham, I think, was a better manager than Epstein. Although Dexter remains the villain, it could be that there was culpability on the British side by not overseeing US operations more thoroughly. I wonder how much influence they could have actually had if they'd really pushed.

Who cares what John would think? He wasn't on the business or marketing end of the organization. Brilliant songwriter, strong guitarist, below-average activist. Those were his wheelhouses. Thankfully EMI left the marketing of the Beatles to the American audience strictly with Capitol Records.

With Dave Dexter you mean? The Danish Dave Dexter? Oh sure, he was born in America but I'm pretty sure everyone thinks of him as Danish except for accidentally being born and raised in Kansas rather than Denmark.

Actually, RCA's first fake stereo process, the one the with the jumping letters, was just as egregious as Capitol's when it came to the split-second delay, maybe even more egregious than Capitol's on some records.

Yes, I believe the correct technical term is "butchered."

You sound like you're talking about a failed World War II operation that nearly handed a victory to the nazis. We're talking about 55-year-old pop records made for children!

Too much nasty, distorted reverb. I'll take the UK mixes.
