No luck with the search on this one...it has been rumored on the last track "Look at You, Look at Me" that Eric Clapton plays the end guitar solo, uncredited. Can anyone confirm this? I always thought it was Mason, but I'll admit it doesn't fit his style...

Can you recall where you've heard this? In all of my years of loving this album, I can't recall anybody mentioning this on the radio or in print. Wow!

Well, let's just say it's a rumor. I found the comment while searching for some other info on Dave Mason's first solo album. I had found an original multi-colored vinyl issue of the record and compared it to my later ABC label copy--which should be the subject for another thread...and a Google search turned up some comments about who played what parts during the recording sessions. Seems there could have been people in the studio who were not especially "authorized" by their recording contracts to participate officially...and some of these "unofficial" participants were committed to tape. Wouldn't be the first time this has happened, you think?

I don't have any hard facts. Just asking if anyone here has any info that would substantiate the notion that Mason had some guitar help on this outstanding track, on a great album I've always considered one of rock's best efforts.

I've never heard that rumor.I've seen him play around that era alone and with traffic.I know he always played that song.I realize in a live setting you can get caught up in the moment.I suppose anything is possible, but his guitar playing always stuck with me for a long time after the shows. No one ever wanted that song to end.He also played guitar on a lot of seminal albums. So for all those reasons, plus the fact the lp was called "Alone Together".I have some doubt to the rumor.Of course that's just my two cents.

I'd never hear about him playing on AT, but I'd heard Clapton played on a single, "Satin Red & Black Velvet Woman" which is on the comp, Dave Mason The Ultimate Collection.

The comments I read about Clapton playing on "Look at You, Look at Me" came from a review on Amazon. I can't say if they were authored by someone who knew Clapton was there and was a contributor, or just wished he was...I always thought it was some fine lead guitar work, and if it was Mason, so much the better! I figured someone on these boards might have some insight. But, so far, it remains a mystery. I wish I could have been around at Sunset Sound back then...

I sure doesn't sound like Clapton from that era, while it surely is on Leon Russel's Roll Away The Stone. Dave Mason was a brilliant guitarist. Check out his solo on David Blue's original version of Outlaw Man. I saw Dave M in the very early 70's with the Pointer Sister doing bgv's. He was amazing... too bad he only managed one record that is worth listening to.

btw Dave Mason was in Derek and the Dominoes, for at least one gig!

Mason still is great. Saw him over the summer and it just was amazing. Voice was superb too.

When Alone Together came out, wasn't Clapton in the throes of his heroin addiction?

That basically took hold in late 70/early 71.
