Hi, sorry for the umpteenth Bowie Rykodisc thread on this forum. I did quite a bit of digging through previous threads to see if the "Young Americans" Au20 reverted to the original mixes of 'Win,' Fascination,' and 'Right.' My conclusion was that it had, but I got mine in the mail today and it seems not! 'Fascination' is probably the easiest to identify, and it's the same as "Sound + Vision," which also featured the alternate mix. I also saw speculation that certain Au20 masters made their way to aluminium in secret ("Young Americans" and Zappa's "One Size Fits All" being some examples), but this of course means nothing if all aluminium and Au20s feature the alternate mixes. Is there any release of "Young Americans" on Ryko that features the original mixes of these three songs?
Damn. Would've been nice to know before I parted with $100 for it! At least I have a cool conversation piece.
Expensive lesson, but I learned in 2011 when I joined SHF to always check (or ask) here before buying. People are pretty generous with their knowledge.
