He just got done with his new documentary, If I could only remember my name. Saw it at the Santa Barbara Film Festival and it was a very good film. He also is looking to get into the pot business here in California. A very busy guy for 77.

As a big fan of the album, the idea of an orchestral reworking sounds intriguing. No doubt it will be out in time for Christmas.

    Yes.

Or something live from the Sky Trails band.

The live Lighthouse RSD EP from a couple years ago is sublime.

Altering, replacing or adding to the feel of the original tracks and players seems like a really bad idea.
That's where all the fun was.

But even more importantly (if this entails new vocals) - Crosby regularly gets accolades for singing "better than ever" - and he sings damn well for being in his seventies.
But his voice isn't nearly what it used to be. Warbly vibrato - shaky pitch - underlying lack of strength and condition at work.....

It was hard watching his Lighthouse companions trying to harmonize with him in a live concert. He was really the weak link.

For those interested - great. Maybe I'll be wrong.

Seriously, if the whole thing was promoted and presented fabulously, it could be possibly a real success for David.
For instance I envision a live performance w symphony + choir in Vatican City videotaped for a TV audience, etc.
Why not? There is that connection, you know. I hope it all comes together for him.

Sure, but it can also be great. In the case of Joni Mitchell's Travelogue, for instance, it can be transcendent.

This record is so loose and organic, though, I can't see how it'll be enhanced by an orchestra. But I guess we'll see!

For the doubters, the Metropole Orkest has long been involved in the Night Of The Proms shows in Belgium and Holland, and have worked with a huge number of pop/rock artists.

Crosby has good taste in music, and I doubt he would consider this if he thought it would be a bust (especially given how great he has been in the last few years on disc and live).

I was lucky enough to see him do the only two live renditions of Tamalpais High (At About 3) in SF in 2014. Sublime!

I think they did Tamalpais with CPR when I saw them in 2001.

As for a rerecorded orchestral IICORMN, could be good, I hope they include Kids and Dogs. I'd rather Croz continues to ride the wave of new music he's been releasing lately. If he must revisit older stuff I'd like to see the PERRO sessions released.

Seems like he did play it a few times in 2001 (if you can trust setlist.fm).

Weird, there was some discussion in 2014 when he played it in SF about it being the first time live. See:

Could be interesting - one of my all-time favorites. Simply gorgeous music, i’m hopeful it translates well to the orchestral format.

BTW, wrt to the “wave of new music”’, it doesn’t really have to be an either-or, does it?

Sounds very respectable (dare I say, mainstream?) I hope he doesn't almost cut his nose hair for the occasion.

Not sure about this at all, not interested.

If I Could Only Remember My Name is simply too good to be messed with. Already an undisputed masterpiece, no need for more.

The only problem with Orleans will be that about the time the conductor lifts his baton, the song is over.

Only problem with that comparison is, Jamming With Edward was tossed off crap, while IICORMN is a legitimate classic album.

  25. Crosby has done three collections of outstanding new music in the last four years. In his 70s. No red flags.
