Anybody owns these titles in the LP version? I haven't heard his music but almost everyone advises me to just grab any DCC titles I can get my hands on. How are they musically and sonically? BTW, were they mastered by Steve as well? What about the Phoebe Snow title? Thanks. Edrich
Which one? There are four of them - all composed by other famous composers and conducted by Leopold Stokowski. Please refer to Steve's DCC (Artist Albums) discography page for their titles. http://www.stevehoffman.tv/discography/dcc.shtml Excerpted from production credit: Disc mastering by Steve Hoffman at L.R.S., Burbank, CA All vacuum-tube playback and cutting system. 2nd Engineer: Kevin Gray They were all cut directly from the original three-channel master tapes or 35 mm films. Sonically you won't be disappionted. Musically you have to listen for yourself. I'm listing their Everest CD counterparts found with the classical search on CDNOW (www.cdnow.com). The CDs may have more tracks. LPZ-1001 Tchaikovsky http://www.cdnow.com/cgi-bin/mserver/pagename=/RP/CDN/CLASS/muzealbum.html/itemid=373632 LPZ-1002 Richard Strauss http://www.cdnow.com/cgi-bin/mserver/pagename=/RP/CDN/CLASS/muzealbum.html/itemid=145283 LPZ-1003 Villa-Lobos/Prokofiev http://www.cdnow.com/cgi-bin/mserver/pagename=/RP/CDN/CLASS/muzealbum.html/itemid=316500 LPZ-2016 Shostakovich http://www.cdnow.com/cgi-bin/mserver/pagename=/RP/CDN/CLASS/muzealbum.html/itemid=356750
thanks Paul. Actually, I forgot what were the specific titles of the Stokowski but I think there were 3 different titles in the shop. I can't listen to them cause i don't think the shop has those titles for audition. what do you think of them musically? thanks again. Edrich
Edrich, Sorry to have confused you. Click the CDNOW links I listed above and they will take you to the Everest CDs it is selling, which are the same recordings as the DCC LPs plus bonus tracks. There are 1 minute samples (in Real Audio/Windows Media) so you can listen to them over the Internet. The production credit applies to all four titles reissued by DCC so both Messrs. Gray and Hoffman were responsible for those releases. I guess you want to test my typing and cut-and-paste skills so here are the titles: LPZ-1001 Tchaikovsky: Francesca da Rimini/Hamlet LPZ-1002 Richard Strauss: Till Eulenspiegel's Merry Pranks/Don Juan/Salome LPZ-1003 Villa-Lobos: UirapurĂș/Modinha Profofiev: Cinderella LPZ-2016 Shostakovich: Symphony No. 5 in D Major
Hi Paul, thanks yet again. I just listened to the clips and I think I'll go down to the shop and get them. Btw, i think you've mastered the art of the cut and paste. Thanks again. Edrich
I have LPZ-1001 Tchaikovsky: Francesca da Rimini/Hamlet, LPZ-1002 Richard Strauss: Till Eulenspiegel's Merry Pranks/Don Juan/Salome,and LPZ-1003 Villa-Lobos: UirapurĂș/Modinha Profofiev: Cinderella. They are wonderful sounding. Ok, incredible sounding and definatly worth getting. As always, Steve cuts some mean wax. I bought mine from Tom Port (thanks Tom!!). I guess I will have to buy a copy of LPZ-2016 Shostakovich: Symphony No. 5 in D Major next. Umm, Tom....
Hi Evan, Thanks. I'll most probably run down to the store now and get myself some Stokowskis. Cheers, Edrich
