I will never forget checking the DCC Gold CD of Pet Sounds out from the library not long after it came out. I'd only ever heard it on vinyl before that (a beat up old duophonic copy -also the way I first heard "Today!", duophonic was evil) and the 1990 Capitol vinyl reissue i bought new with the 3 bonus tracks, which was okay but had a flat sound, sibilance, etc... I had to jump up and adjust my EQ and volume when I heard that huge, booming bass and thick, punchy sound from the gold cd. Pet Sounds was *alive!* The bass on "You Still Believe In Me" shook the room.

That gold CD (along with the gold LA Woman and some other later valuable cds) was stolen shortly thereafter from the library (along with the "Wouldn't it be nice: my story" Landy/Brian "autobiography") and I STILL kick myself to this day for not at least asking if I could buy the disc from the library, or if they'd take a donation and replacement copy, just *something.* I couldn't believe it when I looked into buying one a few years later (the Pet Sounds boxset occupied me in the interim, particularly the stereo mix sampler copy I acquired something like a year before the actual box released due to liner notes squabbling iirc)

I always end up rambling and getting on tangents here lol but the point is, I was blown away by Mr. Hoffman's work and considered his Pet Sounds master to be THE definitive one. It lead me to this amazing forum years ago (a lurker long before I made an account) and I've learned so much here and been introduced to so much great music thanks to his site and it's members.

Happy Birthday and thanks for helping me through some rough times, this past year especially. I don't post a lot but I sure enjoy reading.
