If we assume that Gillan is never going to sing anything that's not from one of his tenures in the band, I would like them to do these that I don't think they've played for a while or at least in the last few tours:

    Flight of the Rat
    No One Came
    Maybe I'm a Leo
    Smooth Dancer
    Anya

Plus bring back Child in Time! Or is that just impossible for Gillan now?

child in time is impossible now. why so i feel like the second two songs you named were played within the last 10 years?

I like the idea of a guest appearance ..
.. on an album. No one has to be in the
studio at the same time as any one else,
(if hostilities still exist) and it isn't as if
it would be a long stay just to put down
a solo, or a track or two. Deep Purple
would never have existed if not for
Ritchie Blackmore, Jon Lord (RIP), and
Ian Paice. It would be a fitting tribute
to the man who helped give them their
careers to honour Blackmore with a
    guest spot.

I think ' Now What?! ' is a pretty damn
great record, even if it is somewhat
    over-compressed; I wouldn't mind a
    CD-reissue with less compression some
time before the tour ends - as a way of
saying thanks to their fans. Not many

    bands get to have the longevity DP has;
some who've carried on as long have
done so at a disservice to their legacy,
unlike Purple who have remained as
vital, dynamic, and spellbinding as ever.
With their core-trio of classic members
in Ian Paice, Roger Glover, and Ian Gillan,
the latter of which never ceases to amaze
with his vocal abilities, they are wholly
deserving of a lifetime achievement award
    or something of equivalent distinction.
In a way, they are heroes of Hard Rock and
the embodiment of the genre's undying guild.

If 'Infinite' were to have been the band's
final studio effort, I'd be happy, as in any
case, that it opens with "Time For Bedlam",
    a mighty " ****
you " to the forces of darkness
that have dwelt in the shadows of society
since time immemorial, those which, afforded
    unchecked provocation, would set civilisation
asunder. Rather fitting then that the album
    should conclude with a tribute to The Doors;

    ♫♪" .. let it roll ...... ,,,, all night long ! .. "♪♪

Deep Purple and the Doors are both in my "top 5 bands ever" list. So it was a surreal moment hearing "Roadhouse Blues" by an ancient dP. It makes for a nice encore, IMO.

Only the screams...and I bet that could be handled with some musical escapade by Morse & Airey that would probably suffice most fans.

Meanwhile, Ian G. could kick some cell phones! ;)

Agree that Child in Time could be brought back in a slightly reworked form. It's such an iconic song that it's a shame they don't do it any more.

I would love to see this as well, though the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame affair a couple of years back means there is still bad blood (didn't the current band effectively stop Blackmore attending? Not exactly sure what the full circumstances were) and there was also a court case over the right to the name between Blackmore and Paice I believe.

Perhaps I'm thinking of 'No No No' rather than 'No One Came' as a very little played song they could pull out.

"No, No, No" would be great! Gillan would most likely need a key change; but that song would be cool. It's definitely more relevant than ever.

i just looked, no one came was last played in 2013. same with maybe i'm a leo. prior to 2013 those 2 songs appeared in the setlist pretty standard from 2008-2013. no one came turned up pretty frequently from 1996-2002 . maybe i'm a leo appears to be a lot more rare outside of the 2008-2013 timespan

Another fantasy setlist request from me would be the stretched out Mandrake Root they used to do in the early 70s. They can't have done that since those days surely.

Now What is hands down the best hard rock album of the 21st century so far.

I marginally prefer Infinite, mainly because of The Surprising and Birds of Prey. Now What is superb as well. Another album like those two would be great - Ezrin seems to bring the best out of the band. For me those two albums are an impressive achievement for a band in their fifth decade.

I think Now What is slightly "better" than Infinite, but both records are so boring. Song writing is bad, no hooks, and the slick production/mix is horrible. Purpendicular is an average record, but a milestone to the last four studio albums.

What do you mean by 'no hooks' and which songs of theirs ever had 'hooks'? Not sure what you mean by this and about the albums being boring. They seem pretty lively to me, certainly compared to other efforts from bands with their longevity. Still really popular in Europe, more so I think than in the US these days.

Yes, they are still popular in Europe. As I said in other Purple threads... Steve Morse was the wrong choice, same with Don Airey.

The songs on Infinite sound unfinished like a jam.

Who do you think would have been better choices or do you think they should have finished when Blackmore or Lord left?

Personally think the last couple of albums are much better than any of the post 84 reunion albums with Blackmore, where apart from a few songs he still seemed to be following the late period Rainbow AOR path. At least with Morse Purples's 21st century material has had pretty good variety.

I agree the reunion albums with Blackmore are boring, particulary Slaves and Masters, but Gillan or Turner could sing the songs. As I said many times.... Morse is a very good guitarist, but the wrong choice at that time.

Who do you think they should have chosen? Can't really imagine who else would have fitted in so well, improved the band atmosphere so much and allowed them to have 25 years of touring and recording with a stable lineup.

  25. I did like the last two albums. I wouldn't consider them masterpieces, but solid efforts. Really like "The Surprising", for example.

Also like "Time for Bedlam" and "All I Got Is You".

I have no complaints about Bob Ezrin, I think he is good for them. Watching the "making of" DVD/Blu-ray was quite interesting to better umderstand how they work in the studio.

A new album will be appreciated.
