I wouldn't call it disco (but I like the song, thank you!)... Disco was basically funk w/ a steady bass drum beat, usually with funky bass riffs... And if you remove the distortion from Robby's guitar, it's exactly what guitarists in the late 70s would do, the slightly-muted rhythmic embellishments.

Jimmy Mac Zooropa... better by design

That god awful part near the beginning of Soft Parade (the song) is closer to disco than Peace Frog ever was.

That's another good example... Does anyone notice how the bass line at the end of "The Soft Parade" (song) seemed to be "borrowed" by Michael Jackson's "Billie Jean"? I believe the bass player from Brothers Johnson was on record.

I've heard "The Changeling" be brought up as a possible influence on Disco.

I think it's just as ridiculous. No offense.

Also, the steady 4/4 hi-hat pulse on certain funk tracks like this one from 1972:

This is from 1968 and sounds like pure disco to me. Sly was incredible. And if Larry Graham’s bass line isn’t disco, I don’t know what is (maybe he invented it)?

"Peace Frog" has nothing to do with disco. The beat's too tricky, and that breakdown ("Indians gathered in dawn's highway bleeding...") would kill any dance party dead.

If anything prefigured disco in the Doors catalog, it MIGHT be "Texas Radio And The Big Beat", but even then, you've got that jazzy bit, and disco and jazz don't mix like that.

    No.
This song did not influence disco
Disco originated from entirely different scene....
There’s lotsa information on its origins on the web, books, etc.

Better singers, musicians and writers helped a lot though they lacked the stripper up front :)

My Italian relatives dragged me to a discoteca when I visited them in 97.

The biggest crowd reaction of the night was near closing time when the DJ played the Beach Boys.

edit: I actually would have killed for them to play some 'disco' all they played was repetitive EDM most of the night, the only dancing that make me want to do is repeatedly bashing my head against the wall.
