Agreed. And as far as filtering searches there were ways one could easily and effectively do that too. Bollocks.
Browsing is where the real searching was. Finding listings that were otherwise obscure or required some effort and work to 'discover' different pressings. I'm still using it but buying less and less. The Load and 'reload' or Next or whatever is a total screwup.
easy enough to switch off with a toggle. because the old one was too hard to maintain, and many issues and scalability problems. the new version will conform to updated web standards and accessibility for webistes. going back to the old version is not possible to maintain a broken codebase, and a new more compatible one. later -1
The worst thing is the app! Put in an artist, click on discography, and everything they’ve ever released is all jumbled together with no order or logic. It’s insane. I only use the desktop version for searching and the app just for scanning new purchases to add to my collection.
because it massively increases the amount of data. If the forum were to allow uploads, the cost of hosting would go up dramatically.
I prefer the new design, really appreciate the filters. I think in the old version, it was more difficult to filter the master list for CDs. Also, I have no difficulty reading the release year, either with Edge or Firefox. The view does have some bugs still. For example, the filter for release year has the years out of order.
Apologies for singling out your post, but I want to make a general comment. Yes, some of the database design, the guidelines and the UI is messy. But many complaints are about the actual content which is provided by the users. If you have different matrix #s, there is an easy way to fix this: Edit the release and enter them as a variant, or submit a new release using the copy to draft option. Of course, you have to make yourself familiar with the guidelines.
I think it's browser/platform-specific. I certainly see this in Firefox (ie truncated year due to column width that is too narrow and apparently non-resizeable), but not in Chrome, for example. In the mobile version, the country and year fields are shown below, rather than to the right of, the entries, so the issue wouldn't arise there.
Really stinks. I have pretty much stopped using it unless I can't find what I'm looking for can't be found elsewhere, even then it is such a pain I give up and go away. I'm wondering what the sellers think of it.
I don’t mind that Discogs is renewing the underlying technology and complying to web standards. Put they combined it with new user interaction patterns that are less user friendly. Personally, I think they prioritised looking fancy over being functional and easy to use. Or they are doing technology optimisations. Like the “load more releases” seems to be a way to lower the load on the back-end. But they should have implemented it in a way that once the whole list is loaded, it stays in the browser cache for easy reference when the user hits the back button. Eg, this is my main usage scenario: Search an album Look at the list of releases in the master release page Click on a release Check that release No, it’s not the right one Go back Click on next release to open it No, it’s not the right one Go back Click on next release to open it Etc…
