I give it a 4/5. A credible copy of the original in Beach Boy style.

I like the a capella part, it makes the song more "Beach Boys." 4/5.

Not a rabid follower of BB covers (except I Can Hear Music) even though I appreciate Carl's lead here. I can take it or leave it and give it a 3/5 as it doesn't stand up with the mostly great songs on the album.

"I Was Made to Love Her" - I'm going with a 4/5, too. I was in the sixties, and am still, a big fan of Stevie Wonder. Carl is straining with the vocal, but does his best. Carl got to be a better singer. Can't even say Carl does it better than Stevie. It's a WonDErFuL Stevie song!

Good song with a unique BB flavor. Great background vocals. Now we have to wait twenty years for the next Stevie/BB song.

    4/5

Country Air. A real "grower" for me. Atmospheric, great vocals (naturally) and I love the "come on" aside.

    5/5

Love this song. when Carl or whomever described Wild Honey as music for Brian to "cool out by, "this song comes to mind. Light and "breezy" lovely melody especially the ascending end of the verses. 5/5

One of the songs on the album that made Wild Honey so damn good. Easy and well deserved 5.

5/5. Also gets points for being the center of the urban legend that this was the "Air" element from SMiLE.

5/5. As a silly aside I always thought that my LP was not wearing properly because there is a crackle that sounds like bad static (I had an el cheapo all-in-one entertainment center to play my music and I always complained so that someday I could justify buying something better. Imagine my surprise when I got something better, and a CD and still heard the crackling noise! Live and learn). It is a great, laid back song, and again not one that you would think was a Beach Boys song if you didn't know better (and another reason Wild Honey is my favorite Beach Boys album!)

I love everything about this track too

We seem to agree "Country Air" is one of the best tracks on the album. Add me. All 5/5 so far. Grunge Master's point that this represented the "air" element was news to me. SMiLE has so many legends... urban and otherwise.

Did you ever figure out what it was? I don't hear crackling/static. The mono mix is as muddy as the Mississippi, tho!

Since I hear the crackling on both my ancient (Reprise era) LP and all my WH mono CDs I assume it was some sort of overload in the recording. My Mom always said when I wanted a better stereo that she didn't hear anything wrong and said that I had hearing problems! But it is certain the mono mix is muddy.

Great rooster sounds to take you out yonder. Great melody, lyrics, and singing from everybody.

Isn’t the crackle part of the Organ?

I give A Thing or Two a 4/5. It works much better in stereo, in my opinion. I would have given it a 3/5 before I heard it in stereo.

Yes. The booklet Smiley Smile/Wild Honey CD from 1990 says:

"You're not having speaker trouble on this one. Even on the master tape, it sounds like a note on the organ is trying to burst through"

Imo it's a charming little detail that only adds to the homespun feel of the album, which I love
