Sorry if this is kind of an ignorant question.

I've heard two different stereo mixes of the song on bootlegs, but none of them have the fadeout I'm used to with the mono.

Was there an official stereo mix made?

    Thanks.

They reportedly cannot even find the multitracks of that song now, so it may never exist in stereo. A pity, really......

Evan, they certainly do have the multitracks for "I Get Around". In fact, I have copies of them. (Sea of Tunes Cd).

The problem is the way the final mono mix was done. They mixed the multi to mono, and while they were doing it, they mixed in the guitar solo LIVE. The solo doesnt exist on the multitrack, only on the mono master. I have a sync up of the song in stereo and its not bad, but its easy to tell its a sync up.

Its really interesting to hear the backing tracks. They did a a lot of takes also.

So what's the current status on the "Good Vibrations" lead vocal tapes? Still missing?

    Good.

Or else we'd have a revisionist thin, drenched in echo, pinched, no-noised, compressed remix of "Good Vibrations".

    I'm glad it's lost.

Too bad they didn't lose Pet Sounds while they were at it.

Boss, c'mon - if you'd been given a chance to whomp up some stereo Pet Sounds sounds it would sound hunky dory, pixie dust/murk and muck not present.... Heck, I'd be inclined to spring for an SH stereo mix (still don't even have the DCC mono - guess I need to hear that one sometime)...

Hang on there Mike! Murk is good, and must be present along with goosh, or am I missing something in what you've said?

I don't think the exact murk/goosh could all be accounted for stereowise, but let's face it: if you wanna remix, who ya gonna call???

The Good Vibrations Boxset has a 'track only' cut of this on it, in stereo with count in/chatter. This is on the bonus disc, not sure where that would be sourced from, the multi-tracks?.

Hearing the stereo mix of Pet Sounds for the first time on the box set was a revelation to me - I heard beautiful instrumental and vocal parts that are inaudible on the mono mix. Sorry, but I have to differ from the "Brian only had one ear - Pet Sounds was meant to be heard in mono only" point of view.
