Well, good to know I am not in the minority.

Amazon 98 percent of the time have some damage. Mostly creases, with drive me daft.

Yep. Hate a new record with a creased corner. Either dropped or shrink wrapped too tightly.

I'll buy old records with seam splits and glue them back together. But they better not be asking anywhere near high grade prices for them.

There is a lot I’ll put up with, but refuse to buy a record with any kind of stains on the cover. An automatic no purchase for me. This is what makes discogs difficult to buy - wear on covers is just as variable as grading records, and is so subjective (maybe even more so). Need to be able to see a picture at least of what I am buying preferably.

Bought from Discogs and never really happy with how the records were shipped. I am sure some people had good experience with Discogs tho.

This actually stopped me buying this last year however.

I had the Super Deluxe Edition for Christmas, it came from Amazon France and was on one of their crazy deals, I think we got it for about $30 or so, anyway they mailed it transatlantic in a poly envelope, unsurprisingly one of the corners of the box was bashed in. It annoyed me a little, but for that price I didn't bother complaining.

Anything new that comes damaged bothers me. But you are correct, it's about the Music!

  9. It does, but unless it's significant I let it slide most times.

  10. Ditto. People who sign their album covers intrigue me. I found some beautiful German LPs of The Mamas & Papas signed by the same German dude, but these LPs were bought at different times & hundreds of miles apart. What are the odds?

I prefer nice sleeves as well as vinyl. With uses vinyl prices appreciating it bothers me to see some places pricing with lack of regard to sleeve condition. The better stores get it. As well but not always - a clean sleeve often harbors a clean record. Bottom line - it matters to me.

Let me guess: Is it because you gave up vinyl long ago and never looked back?

It depends on the album - like most, I care about the disc first; anything else is a bonus. I'd be upset if i ordered something from discogs and there was damage that wasn't disclosed.

I suppose this thread could dovetail into discussion around dead stock and clipped/punched sleeves, of which I have a few and don't mind.

  14. Sleeve damage may be a given for many records, but if it doesn't affect playing, it doesn't bother me too much. The damage may not necessarily come from the sleeve but from when they put the record in the sleeve or before. I've seen brand new records with surface scratches, some deep, in every type of sleeve imaginable. Visible or not, what bothers me is the defects which you can hear.

I found a load of soft porn photos in one, I presume he thought his partner would never go there.

I agree it's about the music but, that said, spending a lot of money on a new record to have it arrive with sleeve damage is annoying. The single LP Toad the Wet Sprocket reissues were $50 a piece and both of mine arrived with small seam splits on the top of the jacket.

LZ II original UK press, sleeve very good but noticed slight indents someone appeared to have used it as a support to write. Being very curious used the stone rubbing method reveling a letter from lovelorn young man at uni writing to his girlfriend at home, who was in pain at there separation, that one I hoped they were still together. :hugs:

That's where I am too, anything less than EX+/NM whether it be jacket or record, and I would sooner go without and not own at all.

Same. No issue with used records. I do get...ahem...irked, as one would say, when it’s a new lp.

I don't buy online often and have never had a problem but if I see any kind of damage on a new record in a store I will not buy it.

It would bother me enough to return it, if it was purchased new.

I want what I paid for.

Happy to learn that I'm not alone in this madness. I can't stand seam-splits, not acceptable. Even more annoying with new/sealed records. I always ask seller if the cover has any before buying online. Strange but I'm good with bends, writing etc.

LP's to me are a package deal. Although I am mainly interested in great sounding vinyl, I also enjoy the art work, liner notes, and look of a fine record. I generally don't return an album for a small corner ding on a new record if it isn't real obvious, but I do notify the sender of the situation.

On older LP's, I have frequently been able to eliminate a lot of (sometimes even all of) the "ring wear" by carefully cleaning the jacket. On softer or textures paperboard covers, I've used soft erasers or dry cleaning pads (made for cleaning books and documents) to good effect. On Glossy covers, I've often found a little diluted Simple Green on a soft cloth works well. I've also found non-toxic Citrisolv often works well on tougher soiling (but this cleaner will melt most plastics and vinyl, so am very careful not to get any on or near the vinyl, and in rare cases it will remove some inks, so use caution!).
