And it's not quite the same as what later appeared on Waiting For The Sun as a bonus track. On Legacy, it has more reverb and such. Kind of gilding the lily a bit. On Waiting For The Sun it sounds more raw and real. For me, nothing beats the Aquarius version.
This may be the first CD I purchased at Costco. They had this, in 1987, in a longbox, for $12.99. Which at the time seemed like a steal for a 2CD set.
Can we keep this thread to discussing Doors - "The Singles" 2 CD, 2 CD + Blu-Ray, & 7" Vinyl Box please?
Sure, lets talk about the ommited mono radio promo 45's. Now excuse me while I listen to my Wishful Sinful single. ....yah know the one they screwed up...
Perhaps if we WISH instead of Talk, we'll get to hear the correct version............ Or should I just Do It in the thread...........
Finally got time to compare the Blu-Ray of the quad best of with my Audio Fidelity version, only to find that I have two disc 1s and no Blu-Ray. Sigh. Do I bother following this up? I guess so... Thanks to a kind user liking this post, I was reminded of it - can someone confirm the existence or otherwise of any additional dedicated mono single mixes of Morrison-era tracks not on this set? As far as I knew, Love Street, Wild Child, Who Scared You and Easy Ride weren’t released as mono radio versions at the same time as HILY, TM, WS and TATP...but additional mono mixes are referred to earlier in the thread. I am confused.
Just bought this with encouragement from our host and was surprised how many singles have unique mixes; most of them have I believe. Every track had notable differences to my well trained Doors ears when listening closely through headphones. Anyway the mastering is superb as is the 50th Strange Days. Botnick should be applauded.
I listen to it more than I thought i would. The mono tracks are fun. Correct me if I'm wrong but 'People Are Strange' has a completely different vocal take as well.
Yeah, I thought that but only a couple of singles sound anything like the album counterpart anyway. I have listened once with the ears of a sceptic but was pleasantly surprised and will revisit often. Does anyone else think BB has created the definitive remasters of first two albums and singles? They sound analogue now after 30 years of that slight digital hardness.
Yes, imo, I like quad mixes and this blu ray is one of the more enjoyable musical experiences I’ve had in the past year. Densmore’s drums particularly shine on several songs.
The 50th anniversary CDs (stereo) for the first two albums use the mastering previously released by AP on SACD.
The debut is sourced from a tape copy rather than the master. I don't like how it sounds. I don't remember how Strange Days sounds but I didn't care for the AP SACDs overall.
Thanks, just saved me money. I always wanted the DCC CD, but can't justify the price tag. My AP LP will do me fine.
It is. I wish I could find the discussion here where that was discovered but my searches aren't turning it up.
It's being discussed in this thread: Doors debut album 2017 remaster Post #3 has Bruce's quote saying the 50th debut used the Sax mastering. Further into the thread, someone level matches and compares.
